Many Saints of Newark is disappointing. It has no clear story and attempts to acknowledge Italian racism towards blacks but it's stilted and hamfisted and lacks a coherent message in this subplot. Ostensibly, the movie is supposed to be 'what makes Tony Soprano the way that he is?' but it fails. Berenthal as Tony's dad is the best thing about the movie, but the ensemble actors impersonating the characters from the series made me smile, especially Corey Stoll as uncle June. He nails Dominic Chianese's Corrado Soprano. Michael Gandolfini looks enough like his dad that this could have been much better movie

It made me want to rewatch sopranos so I'm balls deep in the first season again! loving amazing show. Absolutely hilarious.

The best apologies are crafted with love.
My partner and I spent today getting things from my grandparent's house since Grandpa's looking to sell it so he and grandma can go in to an assisted living place when she's ready to discharge from the hospital. In some ways it's kind of sadder getting stuff when everyone's alive and I don't know, I have a lot mixed feelings. I got the set of pillows/blankets that they had intended to give to me prior to all the COVID stuff stuff and a nice dining set they'd given to me a while back but kept on hand since I didn't have the space for it. Also a whole flat of homemade spicy dill pickles that we're definitely not going to finish off any time soon but friends of mine like so I'll probably divide it up with them and some homemade raspberry vodka, made with homegrown raspberries.

I also was going to try getting the Raiders jersey on one of the cats since my little grey lady is now exploring and hanging out in the living room but it's been a weird and draining day. I definitely need to get a bigger cat tower/tree for them though since they are currently battling it out for the top spot.

On the other hand the Mariners won right when the edible kicked in. Over all, it's a mixed day.

Casino Royale is probably one of my top 5 favorite movies ever and easily the best Bond movie. Quantum of Solace is better than it gets credit for but it’s a companion piece to Casino Royale, it doesn’t really stand on its own.

Skyfall is a totally different direction than those first two and the final act being Home Alone is a bit ridiculous but Javier Bardem is a fun villain and the cinematography is incredible and it pretty much works.

Spectre is just goofy and doesn’t know what it wants to be. I’ll see No Time To Die when it comes to streaming, but my expectations are low.

Pretty much my thoughts. Casino Royale is excellent, and I really enjoyed Skyfall too.

I re-watched all the Craig Bond films a lil' while back and Casino Royale did not hold up.

The first act is S-tier, second act is okay, third act is okay, then there's SURPRISE fourth act that goes on for too long.

I remember absolutely loving it when I first saw it in theaters but now, eh...

"Everyone deals with these things their own way" has been the sad theme of a lot of TFF chat stuff this year. I'm sorry you're going through all of this with your grandparents.

My $0.02 on the going through things and getting stuff while they're alive is them being able to hand-pick things and explain why it means something to them that you have it. We have some random stuff from all of my wife and my grandparents, but the one thing that stands out in my mind is a tea cup my grandma gave to my wife knowing she'd appreciate it (and knowing one of my aunts would probably pawn it if she got it instead). I had never even seen it before, but knowing my grandma picked hand-picked it out during the downsize from apartment to assisted living means something special.

I went to a show last night. Got there a little fashionably late so I missed the first couple artists but I caught the last three,; Toro, Jai Wolf, and the headliner: Porter Robinson. loving awesome show. Everyone had distinct styles, which was pretty nice to hear at a show cause sometimes the DJ will have extremely similar people to warm up for him. Toro was kinda funky techno, Jai Wolf was more standard melodic with a live ~twist~ (he had one of those keyboard thingies), and Porter is Porter doing Porter things. All in all an A+ show, highly recommend even if you aren't into EDM.

It helps that the actress playing her knew what was coming and undercut it the first chance she got. Like it sucks she had to do it in the first place, but she was a like a loving ninja in her press appearances.

Also, watched SNL mainly to see if they would do a Norm tribute (they did, end of weekend update was a minute long highlight real of Norm including an OJ joke). Rest of SNL was fine I guess, I liked the Star Trek Bezos skit and Owen Wilson was fun. The Fox NFL vamping during an injury timeout was loving perfect though.

I saw Bob Saget perform the Friday after Norm died, not sure if a bunch of drunk guys yelling out “woooo Norm!” sporadically was what he’d planned but he certainly encouraged it, kind of nice in its own way.

So turns out you can't take government issued phones out of the country anymore, so spent the first hour and a half of the Chiefs - Eagles game running to a cell phone store to get a phone for my mother and add it onto my account and teach her how to use an android.

She has 2 masters degrees and does not know how a home button works, I pity her IT staff.
