Every new hire and promotion I've seen in the last year or so has been a new senior management or director level position. It's never regular managers or individual employee's getting promoted either, just senior managers and directors making new positions for themselves or filling them with outside hires. I used to be 2 levels removed from the CTO now I am like 5. It's great when the biggest complaint in the last few months have been "We really need to hire more people to do {x}" or "John Doe is critically underpaid and will likely quit within the next 6 months" and the people who say no to these requests are the people inventing all these new senior management roles.

My work got a bunch of people to review bomb great ratings on one of the major job sites. It's super obvious as all the reviews are so similarly written but I guess if you're going to try to trick people into working for you then you want to select for the gullible? The company has also started replying to all the reviews, so I feel bad for the one honest reviewer who gave one star which resulted in two responses urging him to email the "care line".

If sites like glassdoor want to be taken seriously they need better vetting. Not sure how that's possible without setting yourself up for failure tho.

So - 'Scottish Porn'? I assumed this had to be a niche thing like 'Big Boobs' or whatever the hell gets you off, so I searched for it (after turning all the VPN's and antiviral poo poo on). Nothing. Well, some very nice scots ladies shagging, but other than that, gently caress all. So what the goddamn hell did she identify as 'scottish porn'? Is it vague movement under lots of blankets, candlelit with vehement protestant regrets afterwards? Or catholic drunken loving, with confession later? Based on my glaswegian neighbours, you'll get hosed but it'll not be nice - mainly bruising and sorrow.

Only one person actually him watching porn but word got around pretty quick and when nothing happened to him everyone in the office got pretty offended. I mean a guy got in trouble for watching The A-Team but this guy gets busted watching "Scottish porn" (that's what the lady who busted him said it was) and nothing, not even a word from management. It wasn't long after that I started looking for another job and the porn-watcher not getting in trouble was one of the reasons. at my old job they were very explicit about telling us that there's no real active monitoring software on our laptops but to be safe and not disable the antivirus, etc. when you were using it in your "personal time" it was super weird so obviously i asked for the story from some managers who had been around a while: apparently one of the first hires for the US branch didn't have a personal laptop to bring over, so the very first night he was on this intercontinental job gig he loads up some porn on his work laptop and starts going at it, the next morning over in Europe the head IT officer suddenly realizes very quickly he has no desire to know what kinky poo poo this technical architect was into at 8:30 AM local time, and immediately shut down all the active monitoring on devs/architects/anyone not a manager

Last week I learned one of the welders assaulted one of the software engineers a few years ago. Software guy ends up laying the welder out, welder's attack was easily parried + riposted. Both of them still work here. There's also this weird poorly-repaired patch of drywall downstairs from my office in our building. I learned last week that this damage was caused because my current boss was "thrown" into the wall by an unnamed assailant, who apparently also still works here. I have my last round of interviews for an insanely good job tomorrow afternoon. I could be getting a life-changing job offer as early as tomorrow evening.

Today I was yelled at because I said “how are you guys doing?” in the beginning of a conference call and someone got upset and said “that’s not inclusive, you need to say how are you all instead” and my boss was on the call and set up a follow up with me to go over the inclusive word list for 30 minutes I’m probably on some sort of internal shitlist now

It’s a massive fortune company that has gone all in on this stuff, ive seen another person get a quick scolding when they referred to a master branch (it’s now a parent!) It’s honestly fine but I’m not white and have a very not white sounding name which is routinely messed up, i offhandedly mentioned it once and got a follow up from DEI that I could put in an anonymous tip to narc on them lol. It’s quite tempting to be honest

What the gently caress industries are these. That sounds like walking on egg shells. There's a balance between having a healthy inclusive supportive workplace culture and just becoming a police-state culture. I can't think of anything I've experienced like that where PC went too far, but I had the opposite experience when first starting out in a "macho" industry and my boss on his first day brought me into his office to show me hundreds of naked photos of his girlfriend posing on his motorbike. I noped out of that industry and company quick.

Samuel L. Hacksaw posted:How the hell is anyone justifying adding management staff during covid? Same reasoning as ever: It has been established previously that the fastest, most certain way into management is to "network, not work", and hope you get promoted before your lack of work catches up with you. Once in management you play a new set of stupid games for position and influence, and having to actually perform legitimate manager duties distracts from this, lowering performance. So, the first act of the success-minded manager is to attempt to justify hiring another manager to perform their legitimate duties, so they can get on with politics. Hiring more actually productive people is a net negative due to opportunity cost: yes, increased productivity may look good eventually, but it costs similar capital to either hire productive people for indirect/delayed benefit, or to hire another manager to give you guaranteed scheming time immediately, and so it is only done when things are at crisis level. However, if the newly hired manager is smart, then the first thing *they* will want to do is hire a new manager to take on their legitimate duties... ad infinitum. No-one in management calls anyone on this because all are guilty. Now, this could trivially be stopped by even a single senior manager with integrity, dedication, and confidence but ahahahahahaha have you been reading this thread? Covid didn't change anything about this, because it was never about external conditions to begin with.

Serious question on HR/Medical policies: In general, if I do a medical checkup as a pre-requirement for a position and they find that I have a serious medical condition (such as heart issues, kidney issues, liver, stomach etc. etc) will that be criteria for exclusion for the position? If yes, does that mean you can't gain employment if you have a chronic or acute illness? If no, then what is the purpose of the pre employment medical checkup and what criteria flags you for exclusion (e.g., then whats the purpose of it)?

I know some jobs have physical requirements you have to meet for various reason. This could be for your own safety or for others safety. But if you aren't like a industrial diver, operating heavy machinery of some kind, or airline pilot, I can't imagine a reason for it other than like insurance poo poo. What kind of job is this?
