Because some people think that it is good when the government murders people they don't like.

I refer you to the fact that kneeling on a black guy's neck until he died in full view of a crowd recording it was controversial in the YOOL 2020 instead of universally condemned.

You know, it's clear that the more faithfully he renders the kid's drawing, the better the art. In those, note the terrifying and badass messenger of God, followed by the rather boring stone golem--both interpretations of the same drawing.

Here's one that's a freer interpretation. The clock should be a full body shield, but in dad's version it's basically a brooch. The character is obviously shooting fish that are also guided self-propelled missiles. Much cooler than holding an anchor, but ignored. The kid's seems like more of a Dr Octopus character than a literal octopus. Dad's version is not that cool.

In this one, dad just drew it pretty exactly, only adding BG and transportation. Great character.

Faithful rendering, cool character with a clear personality.

This one's exactly what the kid drew:

Faithful, except the loss of the pocket square and offset smirk, and the worse for their omission.

This is the only one where dad fudged on the facial expression. Most of them, he renders the facial expression perfectly--which is probably the thing it's most tempting to alter.

All those games are significantly newer. Freespace games were awesome though. Definitely better than Prophecy.

And since that was my opinion as a middle schooler it must still be true 25 years later :smug:

I didn't play Wing Commander 1&2 until 2004 -- after I played Freespace 1&2 and Tachyon: The Fringe -- and despite the fact that they are both older games than Privateer, found that there was still a lot to enjoy there despite how dated they were.

"both" refers to the first two Wing Commander games, which came out in 1990 and 1991, i.e. before Privateer.

It's not a stone golem, it's literally a statue in the background, I thought it was a pretty neat way to include it in the picture and to hint that it was worshiped as a deity

I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

Right, good on him then. I honestly think he was more talented than most of the roles he got; Wing Commander was a travesty but that was hardly his fault.

I've seen that one meme before with like "yeah he was a kickboxing champion as well as a comedian and then got into commentating on the UFC. Yeah he's fantastic to listen to, has great guests and really makes you think".

I looked this up and champion is stretching it for someone with a 2-1 record

Yeah the point is that people listening to him massively inflate his actual achievements to make themselves feel better about listening to someone who failed their way upwards into stardom.

My favourite Joe Rogan bit is when he had some manner of ex-CIA analyst on, and the dude was like "you know what your problem is Joe, you take whatever people are telling you at face value without thinking about it". Joe replied "yeah you're right I am totally like that" and the other guy said "Joe you're doing it right now"

Smoosh

One time we were at a major medieval jousting exhibition, which was being shown on the big screen, and some knight on a horse rode over and asked me an butch lesbian “for a token fair maiden” and everyone in the stadia laughed, so I handed him my 10 year old niece who he couldn’t see under him because she’s a dwarf, and because the bastard had committed at that point he had to do a lap of honour with her on his horse with everyone cheering.

Thank you for reading this anecdote.

Every year it gets cold near Christmas I have the bright idea to make egg nog and hot toddys for a winter party and end up regretting it almost immediately. Don't drink more than one of what I like to call Mountain Drinks. If a drink involves cream or like, creme d'cacao or hot buttered rum or something one is your limit unless you want to barf that night
