Princess Cup Night 5 was a big step up in quality from the previous nights - How many songs to the Up Up Girls have? I'm pretty sure this one was a repeat - After commenting on all the J-pop intros I have to give thanks to Kamiyu's Cascada ripoff and Hikari's metal track - I have no idea why the 3-way started with them all coming out to music from FF7 but I dig it - What's Hyper Misao saying in her pre-match promo? Is it the same thing every time? - I loved seeing Maki get to take the lead in her match with Suzume. Everything I've seen from her so far has been her as the more inexperienced underdog but this was really fun. Her joy at beating people up and anger at getting hit were giving me some Suzuki vibes and she and Suzume went really hard. Almost a MOTYC for me but lacked the tense closing stretch to push it over the top - MIU STRONK - I saw Rika was the champ before Miyu and she can clearly work but I'm not getting anything for her personality to lock on to - Miyu/Mizuki was frickin' awesome

Yeah, I think a lot of people have a hard time warming up to Rika, and I'm one of them. Her ring work is never bad, it's just that in a promotion where everyone is an archetype she isn't one really. Have you heard the Bakuretsu Sisters theme yet? It's J-Rock rather than J-Pop and it also goes harder than it has any right to do. Hyper Misao is always up to some bullshit, and it's usually different bullshit each time. Sometimes it helps to find the DDT English Update thread from when the match took place for live translation.

Essentially she will almost always have weird stipulations, and has great comic timing with it. At the start of the year, Shoko Nakajima lost a match to her (a weird one involving toy dinosaurs and lucky surprise eggs) and one of the stipulations was that if Shoko lost she had to become Misao's sidekick for a month. So for a month we had Hyper Misao and Shin Ultra Shoko running round like idiots and it was great.

She's the person who keeps the spirit of DDT alive in a promotion that's established it's own separate and distinct vibe. I don't think Yano would have done anything like the Hyper Misao retirement match/celebration.
