Digital set top boxes were a thing for a long time in the UK before they became integrated in new TVs.

At least around here, you can't even get rid of them for free anymore -- the garbage truck won't pick them up and the recycling center charges a small fee to take them.

At least now if it's a working CRT you can probably get rid of it pretty easily via facebook market or failing that some of the retro gaming groups if you post it as free as long as someone picks it up. Of course then you have to deal with lugging it to a nearby parkinglot or whatever or telling an internet stranger where your house is. There are a lot of people in the US right now who collect and trade them to get authentic retro colors and display on old consoles and emulators.

Try your local community theater group as well, they might need one for 90s period pieces. In other news, our local punchman wants to run for governor! https://www.hawaiitribune-herald.com/2021/10/06/hawaii-news/bj-penn-says-hes-ready-to-fight-for-hawaii-as-governor/ Possibly so he can try and get out of the DUI arrest he got back in January?

Like actually accessing/viewing it is pretty much impossible but it's technically encoded in there, somewhere. PhazonLink posted:I think the answer here was In the early days of Bitcoin, when transactions cost fractional pennies, people did embed image data into the blockchain. In 2018, German researchers found: quote:Bitcoin’s blockchain contains at least eight files with sexual content. While five files only show, describe, or link to mildly pornographic content, we consider the remaining three instances objectionable for almost all jurisdictions: Two of them are backups of link lists to child pornography, containing 274 links to websites, 142 of which refer to Tor hidden services. The remaining instance is an image depicting mild nudity of a young woman. In an online forum this image is claimed to show child pornography, albeit this claim cannot be verified (due to ethical concerns we refrain from providing a citation). Notably, two of the explicit images were only detected by our suspicious- transaction detector, i.e., they were not inserted via known services. There may be more embeds that the researchers missed because they were not aware of the encoding methods.

You can very clearly see a decline into reactionary politics as the cumulative brain trauma affected him more and more as he aged. Hell, he went on to be part of a diplomatic mission to lecture Africa about the evils of communism and the USSR, then publicly supported Reagan and Bush. An Ali who didn't have a boxing comeback would have been a very different man.

BJ Penn has sort of a mirror-image opposite whatever thing going on with George Foreman as well. Foreman named all his sons George Foreman. BJ Penn's real name is Jay Dee Penn, after his father, and BJ is short for Baby Jay. But both of his brothers are also named Jay Dee.

grittyreboot posted:I remember being a kid and thinking my parents were weird for actually being happily married because the sitcoms portrayed it as nonstop fights. I think lots of our parents' generation were like "poo poo, better get married, that and having kids is how you have value" and married too early/too quickly/ignoring red flags. My generation (I'm in my mid 40s, I don't want to generalise) saw how bad a lot of them got, and just opted out, or waited. My mother married my father when she was 22 and heavily pregnant, and by 24 she had had my brother and I, and was divorced. I got married at 32, our first kid was born when I was 34 and our second when I was 36, and my wife and I get along really well.

My parents got married when my mom was 19 and my dad was 27. They're still together almost 54 years later but they don't particularly like each other. My mom was telling me her previous boyfriend proposed when she was 17 and she wanted to accept, but her dad wouldn't let her until she got a job and was working for at least a year just in case.

She said to me "Can you show me how to pump the gas? I don't know how. My husband always did it and he died a few days ago!"

I’m impressed that he’s looking for a woman who’s done Islamic Studies in college/university. Fundamentalist mainstream Protestants in the US barely want a woman who’s read the Bible all on her own to marry their sons, let alone gone to college or completed any kind of degree. Don’t get me wrong, it’s all paternalistic and patriarchal as hell, but it’s nice to see arranged marriages modernize as much as they can while still being arranged marriages.
