Cultural Genocide is Genocide and doesn't matter if its your favorite country or your most hated, stop trying to tiptoe around it. It will get quickly ramped and whoever does it will be threadbanned Dipped a toe in the murky waters of pop China scare-books. Well, gawrsh, worse'n I expected. A lot of us were 13-year old dweebs who read US News & World Report without guffawing, but most of us grow out of that stage. Not Dan Blumenthal! His product is titled The China Nightmare, though the body of the work fails to match the calm, balanced tone of his title. Dan's outline of the problem: "The US seeks to retain its position as the prime power in Asia...so that it can help the region become even more free and open. Beijing wants to carve out an authoritarian sphere of influence that it can control, making Asia repressive and closed." He goes on to describe the PLA as "the armed wing of the CCP," stealing the IRA's gag that the British Army was "the armed wing of the Conservative Party." Along the way there are startling, seemingly unconscious admissions like this: "In the CCP's view, in stark contrast to the US-led world order, this [world] community will be based on more equality among nations, more mutuality of partnerships rather than alliances, and national systems of governments based on the "Beijing model." And that's a nightmare why, exactly? But quibbles are beside the point. Those who buy books like this have picked a side. The problem for Dan & co., though they seem totally unaware of it, is that their side is in big trouble for reasons that don't interest them at all--that just annoy them, in fact. And if you mock their Great Game childishness, you're a Beijing agent. Ah well, ["fairness" voice here], there are probably versions of ol' Dan B. in Beijing too. Are there though? As ferociously nationalist, definitely...but not quite, not yet, with this sort of ossified idiocy.

God that article is dire, if unsurprising. Two different camps who agree that they need to somehow flip the bit that makes people lifelong Republican voters into Democrats instead. Is the US an economic powerhouse because it was the only industrial nation left untouched by the ravages of WW2, and who then leveraged that power to create a global mercantile empire that raped developing nations and made off with their wealth, or is it because capitalism is so gosh darned good and the free market is so powerful? I know what an economist would answer!

Letting a kid skip an entire school year is expensive.

Its still a pretty perfect encapsulation of the extremely negative, issues light Clinton campaign though. In 2016 Trump was the issues candidate, who ran on vaguely caring about the things that affected people and promising solutions, even if the solutions were dumb. Clinton mainly ran 'TRUMP BAD. REMEMBER THE NAME TRUMP. TRUMP TRUMP TRUMP. BAD' ads.

I cannot imagine someone subjecting their kids to "politix". My kids, even my teens, are just vaguely aware of what's going on nationally. Kids are supposed to be worried about poo poo like getting their bike fixed and whatever toy they might get for Christmas. Not "literally shaking and crying" because mommy told them that Trump/Biden is going to put them in a camp. My kids are also extremely worried about whether dad is going to cook ricearoni or make sandwiches for dinner. It's the topic of the hour.

Some Guy TT posted:i am attempting to introduce my niece and nephew to socialism via the hit webcomic trixie slaughteraxe for president I do get my kids involved a little bit. If there's a protest going on we'll go during the daytime and listen to the speakers, or if it's a smaller protest let my kids ask questions. That's a pretty low-key way of introducing them to anti-war type stuff and also builds in their minds that protests/protestors are good.
