So the Mazda6 is gonna do a, "I LIVE! I DIE! I LIVE AGAIN!" thing and return sometime after 2021 as an upscaled RWD luxury vehicle. I guess this makes it officialish? The article mentions going after BMW 3 and Mercedes C class but there are Kia Stingers running around now, too.Waffle House posted:That is The Family Heirloom. air- posted:Try and get your inspection done asap while the light is cleared How hard was this to do? I had the code cleared and it stayed cleared long enough to get the inspection done. A week or two ago when I was pretty low on gas the light came back again. I've since purchased a new gas cap and driven the car several times and the CEL hasn't cleared itself. So, I'm getting the feeling the cap might not have been to blame. I should probably go get the code read/cleared again or buy and obdii scan tool to do it myself. Did you have a shop smoke test it or is it something you could do yourself? Are any of the scan tools good enough to let you test the individual emissions components? I'll have to look up your post when I'm on my desktop.

My wife's Model Y is almost here, so once that arrives I'm probably selling my car to shift and on the hunt for an ND2 Miata or some other sporty, small car.

I've got a basic-rear end FWD 2018 CX-5. I like to do some car camping. One of my OEM tires has a slow leak in it, which I think I picked up on a gravel road, and America's Tire has a Labor Day sale, so I'm thinking of replacing them with something that might handle car camping a little better. So far the reviews online suggest: 1) Michelin Premier LTX for the best on-road performance 2) Michelin Defender LTX for a little worse performance but much better tread life ??? 4) KO2s? I'm wondering what I could put on this thing that would be slightly better for fire roads and whatnot. Or should I just put Defender LTXs on it?

I’m thinking of doing the brakes on my 2014 3 GT. The rotors have had a wobble since I’ve bought it and now I’m starting to hear squeaking. It’s also something I’ve never done (outside of servicing the hydro brakes on my mountain bike) but would like to do myself. What’s the consensus on replacement pads/rotors? OEM? Other?

MetaJew posted:Do y'all have a preferred online OEM Mazda parts site? Forgot to post pics! Did a smoke test a while back and we removed the back seat - was very obvious the leak came from the lock ring at the fuel tank and was easy to spot the crack while doing the smoke test. First and most importantly, make sure your fuel tank is as empty as possible before starting (did this with 4 miles left on the trip computer's miles remaining counter). The fuel tank needs to come out in order to reach the lock ring and the removal took up majority of the time. Have another person help out with a jack ready to support the fuel tank as bolts are removed and it comes down. Getting the ring unscrewed by hand was impossible, so we ended up using a dremel to cut out the old one. Was it very difficult to remove any of the fuel or evap hoses? What about disconnecting the fuel filler neck hose? I need to make some calls to local shops and the dealer and see what they would charge to replace this and figure out of I want to bother with DIYing it.

I'm in Austin. I called the dealer and a shop called Rising Sun Auto that's been around for a long time. The dealer wanted ~$320 to do a smoke test and diagnose. Rising Sun said they'd do the diagnosis for $130. I think I'm just gonna drop it off at Rising Sun to at least confirm my suspicions and then see if they can give me an estimate to fix it. I'm planning on selling the car soon and getting something like an ND2 Miata, but my assumption is that it'll be much easier to sell privately or to some place like Shift/Carvana if there isn't a smell of fumes and two CELs.

Yikes, well I got the car smoke tested. They came back confirming it was the lock ring, but their estimate to replace it is $966 for parts, labor, and tax. I think that's gonna make this a DIY job. :|

I wound up taking the car to the dealer and got them to quote me $472, or 3 hours of labor for the replacement of the lock ring. After parts, I think that price will be closer to $520, but I'm not upset about that. I didn't have to drain a gas tank or bust my knuckles. The dealer did send me a video of the damaged part which is kind of cool. Looks like a textbook failure-- and an alarming amount of sludge or gas residue had collected on top of the pump. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dX5oDlxgeM

I'm kicking myself for not selling it to shift when they were offering nearly $9k earlier this year. When I checked about 5 days ago, the offer was $6,000. That's a little less enticing than selling on Cars and Bids, but then I would have to do a pretty extensive detail, photos, and deal with neckbeard internet male commenters. The last one or two MS3s I saw on C&B had people that were trying to tank the sale saying that the VVT was going to fail anytime soon and grenade the engine, and that the seller was irresponsible, etc.

Previa_fun posted:How do you even do that. I honestly don't know. My assumption is that I should've told them not to wash the car, and that whoever washed it had a pebble in the wash mitt or sponge and scratched it. Someone else in the Terrible Car poo poo thread suggested maybe they dragged an airhose across the roof. That doesn't make sense to me, because the repair they were doing involved dropping the gas tank, so they should've never even touched the roof. Who knows. Maybe it was the tech that scratched the roof, and if they didn't wash the car I wouldn't have noticed it. Either way, I want to make sure I get a proper repair from a body shop, and not some tech trying to dab touch up paint on the roof. I'm preparing to sell the car, and debating if I go through the effort of listing it on Cars and Bids since that's where I've seen them sell for the most. I'm already wincing at the idea of having to respond to a bunch of internet tire kickers telling me that the VVT is going to grenade the car cause I didn't preemptively replace it, or something-- but who knows. Selling it at auction and just having someone come pick up the car vs. listing it on Craigslist/FB Marketplace and dealing with tire kickers seems a little better. Obviously I'd prefer to either sell it to an enthusiast who just shows up with cash and doesn't hassle me, or to Shift/Carvana but the prices they are offering have dropped $2-3,000 in the past few months.

Update on my loving AC Called the parts department, gave me the old "Let me call you back in 30 minutes". 2 hours passes and I have to call him. Keeps me on hold for a long while and then lets me know, oh yeah, it did come in, but I didn't pick it up in 45 days, so they sent it back. I never got a single call, no emails, not a goddamn thing. Now he wants to put the order back in, make it express or whatever, and how the gently caress does that help me now? It's November, I need AC in August. I'm debating going in tomorrow with a loving Molotov. Worst of all, not a single "whoops!" or "sorry" or even a very corporate "I'm not sure what happened, but I'd be happy to make this right for you". Just loving a pregnant silence while I tell him how badly they jacked this poo poo up. Goddamn, I am never buy a Mazda again. ElGroucho fucked around with this message at 01:04 on Nov 10, 2021 |

The parts guy on the phone took my contact info, told me he would order the tank and call me when it arrived. He did not take payment. A week goes by and no call. I call them again and say I ordered this part, and it hadn't arrived. New parts guy says, "Well if you didn't pay for it, we wouldn't have ordered it. I'll order one for you now." I give him my payment info and the replacement piece shows up at their shop in maybe 2 days. A month later, I get a call from the dealership parts department saying my coolant tank has arrived. They're pretty incompetent, and unfortunately, Roger Beasley owns the monopoly of Mazda dealers in Austin.

I just changed the brake fluid in my 2013 3, and figured I should bleed the clutch too since it’s a shared reservoir. The slave cylinder is plastic, and the bleeder nipple looks like this. Sorry for the dark mirror photo. What do I do with this?

# ? Nov 10, 2021 23:12 |

I cant tell from your picture, but on my 09 3, the slave cylinder is fed from the same reservoir as the BMC. I just put a hose on it and had my friend pump the clutch while I opened the bleeder nipple. Shouldn't be any different than bleeding brakes, but keep in mind you may have to manually return the clutch pedal if it gets stuck at the bottom.

# ? Nov 10, 2021 23:29 |

It was hard to manage the camera, light and mirror all at once, but the closest thing I see to a bleeder is a 1/4” hose barb molded into the slave cylinder with some kind of E-clip through the side. edit: I gave up, but it looks like this. I wouldn’t mind knowing how it works though. https://www.partsgeek.com/gbproducts/WC/118801-01366568.html eddiewalker fucked around with this message at 00:07 on Nov 11, 2021 |

Or do something extra silly like vinyl wrapping it yourself or paying a place to hydrodip it a silly color.
