also all this poo poo about invading taiwan is stupid poo poo invented by crusader kings players and people who jack off to us military history. why would china invade itself. the cpc is largely just biding their time until the us hegemony gets to the point where they can't sustain the fuckery and psyops that make anyone think that an independent taiwan is a good idea in the first place. either somehow the roc gets brainworms and believes the us isn't going to afghanistan them and declares independence wherein the response from prc will likely be "ok, enjoy your brexit" and cut off taiwan's access to all the special economic zones on the mainland which will basically turbofuck the economy on the island, or the more likely scenario where the US state department gets increasingly and visibly incompetent and over some length of time the ROC charade gets increasingly silly and CPC rule is increasingly recognized and exercised

Ghost Leviathan posted:Or just neoliberal atlas shrugged brain that is apparently what western intelligentsia actually believe i have my personal pet theory that the stupid garbage propaganda they coined in the 70s and 80s to sell reaganist neoliberalism to the rubes is now actually believed by those in power and the intelligentsia two/three generations later after being repeated endlessly across all airwaves, as opposed to being merely pr for their godawful policies. Policies which also unintentionally (?) are now tanking global western influence worldwide as we retreat into a fantasy world and try to deal with a public health issue like a pandemic or climate change through creative accounting

I mean, even as a tankie, I very much doubt that being ruled from Beijing is anywhere near the top of anyone's wish list in Taiwan. Neither is fighting a war over it or being used by the US as a martyr in the international struggle against Chinese aggressiontm

Also, the first competitive elections happened in the 1990s and the first non-kmt president was in 2000, pretty recent to be honest. Also, the Taiwanese public in general seems to prefer a solution that changes everything as minimally as possible. This would probably man gradual economic integration then loose political integration (something more similar to the EU than HK). War is worse case scenario for both sides.

The idea that America isn't worth tussling with because the empire is collapsing is just too difficult to think.
