Those movies/shorts are pretty solid for a kids cartoon. Having Kamala and Doreen be bffs is a pretty good pairing, and I'd hope they would carry that over to live action.

Probably wishful thinking here, but What If season 2 would be a fun excuse to bring back the Netflix MCU characters & actors. Like "What If the Defenders were the Avengers?" or "What If Kingpin had the Infinity Gauntlet?"

It was just too much. It’s not a fun cameo when everyone is in everything. There was no reason, honestly, not to include other Marvel characters from other shows, or future films, or who have only ever existed in comics so far. Lots of those in the show looked different anyway, Batroc and Drax looked much more like their comic selves, so why not stuff Namor or Daredevil or The Thing or Stiltman in there? It’s not a commitment to having them be in movies, or follow that look, at all. “What If… Marvel Could Look Beyond Remixing Existing Movies Only?”

The big appeal of this was marketed to everyone was that most of the actors from the films reprised their roles. They weren't guns introduce anyone new except the Watcher. So I wouldn't expect new people in season 2 either, but it will have more TV and movies to pull from.

It’s not a commitment to having them be in movies, or follow that look, at all. There was a pretty simple reason, and that reason is that just because nerds are familiar with Stiltman and would enjoy his cameo doesn't mean that the average MCU fan and/or Disney+ subscriber who is the actual audience for this would. They're sticking to characters already introduced because that's all they can expect the audience to know.

“What If” featuring a bunch of characters no one has ever heard of or cares about defeats the fundamental premise of “What If”, which is putting famous characters everyone knows in new and weird situations. If you have no context for a particular character, then their “What If” scenario would just seem like a normal adventure for them.

I liked What If but I think they were poorly edited. Each one I think could lose about five minutes.

I think they've all been pretty much fine on length (party Thor going a bit too long, but that's because there isn't really a story happening). They're pitched at people who've seen all the films so they hit the ground running, don't bother doing more than the bare minimum of exposition for the sake of the story they are telling in the moment, and then conclude before too many questions get asked.

I think the only episode that could have really benefited from being longer was the zombie one

I kinda wish they'd given the Stark-on-Sakaar ep a summary on YouTube or something, just to give Gamora a little more context in the finale. Could've been fine with animatics or storyboards with Wright voiceover. Maybe they're saving it for season 2 but seems kinda weird already knowing how it ends, unless they expand past it.

They don't want their top shows to step on one another and they want to keep people subbed so it doesn't make sense to have Hawkeye and Boba Fett episodes on the same day especially if there's going to be a break after Boba Fett before more MCU/Star Wars. This is the same reason they changed to a Wednesday release with Loki to try not to step on Black Widow. It's not that it's a problem for us, it's just not their best use of their content for their purposes, which is still perceived as being pretty sparse by many people vs Netflix (people always forget it's like 1/3 the price but ) Nail Rat fucked around with this message at 18:23 on Oct 14, 2021 |

That's not "good," to be clear, it's just interesting.
