I read ahead a bit in Mieruko-chan and I see just enough of what people like about it to get annoyed, because through 3 volumes it really has shown some ability to do interesting and emotional stuff with the premise and there's a lot of really striking art, but even once the *super* uncomfortable horniness gets toned down, you still have to sit through a lot of pages where the only real joke is "Miko feels intensely unsafe (often for provably good reason!!!) and has to just sit silently and deal with it" and it's just....kind of a bummer? It's weird, I get why people like it but it often just rubs me the wrong way.

I didn't make it past manga chapter 1 of Mieruko though, but that's just because I always nope out of creepy horror stuff in two seconds flat. The monster/spirit art is impressively unnerving.

Does Nagatoro ever move past the teasing and abusing of Naoto? I get that she's extremely anxious and can't express her feelings honestly which is why she bullies him but I dont know if I want to watch or read a series where that kind of relationship stays so toxic for the sake of laughs.

I kind of liked vanitas initially because it did not really normalize how rapey that scene when he meets the giant claw lady was. It was just overtly bad and everyone in the show said how poo poo and awful it was. It was kind of refreshingly self aware compared to how rapey a lot of anime is like it’s totally normal and chill.
