Extrano from New Guardians published by DC also had Aids/HIV, but no one gives a poo poo about New Guardians except for the one character whose super powers were powered by cocaine.

That tends to be how it is where the writers want to try new and interesting things with these characters and the higher ups are all "BUT THAT MIGHT HURT SALES" meanwhile the industry just keeps on dying. And even if you wanted to make Spider-Man get divorced, Black Cat is right there yeah? Don't need to involve magic satan stuff.

Joe Quesada, like Geoff Johns, is an example of a guy who got into and stayed in comics because they were way too attached to a few characters and got weirdly personal once they got control over them. It's telling about their personalities which aspects of the character they chose to get real particular about.

I don't know if this was some weird internet myth or actually true, but weren't teachers recently claiming that kids are now insulting others via calling them "default"s, as in "You only have the default skin on Fortnite, loser"? Again, this may have just been some shitpost that people took and ran with, but I've definitely seen mention of this.

That's because Chuck Austen didn't understand anything and went "Mutants are a different species so they can't catch HIV!" He also self-inserted his wife as his favorite character's new girlfriend while making the character's established girlfriend an insane harpy, so you know, may as well just read whatever you find on Fanfiction.net.

I can stand by this one because I've ended up using similar to refer to people who perform no character customization when available. C'mon, be a little more interesting than playing a regular-rear end dude. Try a little harder. Granted, that does fall apart a tad when cosmetics are only available through microtransaction, but for the most part it holds.

Quibbles about "making them a different species has PROBLEMS" aside, I think the species that is functionally identical to humans can probably catch HIV just fine. "H STANDS FOR HUMANS NYAH" is about as far as he thought anything through. hell, let me save you guys from my nerdery, something I ran across: https://twitter.com/GrantBrisbee/status/1447277690898182144

Almost universally I could not care less what my character looks like, especially when it has nothing to do with anything (as would be the case in any game you can customize your character) At most I might hit a few buttons or just hit randomize a few times and go.

If they give you detailed face options I'll usually hit randomize a bunch of times until it looks like an actor or character I know, tweak it a bit, then I'll do a playthrough as Philip J Fry or Ron Perlman or Khan from Star Trek or whatever. I remember in rock band 2 one of the face options looked like Stallone so we made a default house band of Cobra, Rambo, Demolition Man, and Rocky called Sly And The Family Stallone that guests could use during parties.

grittyreboot posted:I never understood why mutants are treated as persecuted outcasts for their powers while Captain America or the Fantastic Four are celebrities At the time they were created, there weren't that many people with big flashy powers in the Marvel world, and even folks like the Fantastic Four and Spider-Man often found themselves hated. It's only worked as a story for the last few decades when it focuses on weirder, more disturbing mutations and dangerous powers that manifest without warning.
