My personal canon for Other M is that Samus and Adam had a pretty good professional relationship, but there was a guy in the Galactic Federation who got dunked on by Samus once and thinks Adam was the coolest alpha male in the universe who got to write up the official logs of what happened during the events of Other M. He was like "I bet when Ridley showed up, she acted like a little bitch baby" and started furiously typing away.

People were naturally outraged by this. This is his response.

You hate to see it. Of course people can say “woman”. Acknowledging that other people get pregnant, too, doesn’t “erase” the women who get pregnant.

I say woman all the time, sometimes even in reference to trans people, and no one gets on my case about it. Ditto for every person I know. It's weird how people getting negative responses to their usage of the word are always the ones who take issue with trans inclusivity. I wonder what the common denominator here is. I guess society just really hates the w-word.

Atwood's been on this pick me terf bullshit for a bit, she signed that anti-cancel culture letter with rowling a while back. I think she's firmly in the lead paint chips generation imagine writing a whole dystopia about sexism and structural misogyny and then thinking it doesn't apply to trans people or that they'd be the enemy in the series lmao imagine thinking you're a feminist but tying your entire identity to the ability to have a baby lmao

The arguments against phrases like “pregnant people” are the same arguments anti-feminists used against rewriting public policy with “he or she” instead of just “he”.

I'm kinda baffled at the starting point for "we can't say woman". Like I get she's a terf but "woman" seems like the most modern acceptable term over "girl" or female or whatever. Like I use "partner" and "girlfriend" interchangeably but if I was actually referring to the person I share a home with I'd feel really weird and uncomfortable calling her "girl" or "female" instead of "woman." e: I also say "gal" a lot but that's an in-joke, definitely wouldn't say it to a rando. We should revive it though it's a fun word to say. Edgar Allen Ho has a new favorite as of 18:07 on Oct 19, 2021 |
