free guy is the weirdest champion for non franchise integrity because for all the pandering bullshit in that finale and the obsessive need to explain its own plot it was marketed entirely based on concept and having ryan reynolds as a star that free guy broke a hundred million anyway yet somehow didnt inspire studios to make similar kinds of movies going forward suggests that the economics of filmmaking are hosed in such a way that no one is willing to explain why theyre hosed because theyd have to also admit that box office is a lie and doesnt actually determine whether or not a movie is considered a success
