It might still print, actually. You should try it. I scratched the poo poo out of my first printer's LCD and it still worked fine after. e: I mean assuming it wasn't sandpapered or anything.

Looking for patreons and resources for Necromunda terrain, mostly scatter and some thematic stuff like ratty houses and outposts.

The couple of things I keep an eye on on patreon for this are: Txarli factory - probably fits the bill best, fairly generic 40K scale terrain. Print Minis - its own sci-fi universe newish patreon which also does some pretty good terrain. Both do have patreons but their back catalogue is available through MMF.

Pour one out for my Photon S. 6000 or so points of warhammer models, a flames of war army, and uncounted singletons later, the screen finally kicked the bucket. A new screen is like 60 euros, I might just get a fancier new printer.

Speaking of BFG minis, I just got a notice that The Maker's Kult on Patreon has Soul Forge Studio as a guest modeller, and they're doing an Imperial Escort in 1/5000 scale: Which looks totally sweet. https://www.patreon.com/soulforgestudio

Anyone have a good recommendation for a slicer for a mars 2 pro? I used to use prusa for supports and then slice it in chitubox but I guess I need to make an account for it now and dont want to bother. I heard Lychee is good.

Basically yeah, I do a similar process when I print on my Photon Mono. I do all the supports in Lychee and then export as an .stl so I can slice it in Photon Workshop.

I have started getting less terrible at 3d sculpting. Still deciding on hand styles and how to make this guy Slaanesh-themed for my Chaos Renegades team, but it was a quick sculpt that managed to come together quite nicely. Getting close to what I can do with putty and wire, at least.

So, I got a Photon Mono SE and it's awesome. It's mostly intended for printing my own designs, but until I get those developed, I started looking at other stuff. Am I right in thinking that Patreon accounts are for people who make minis for 'other' games and a way of avoiding blatant copyright issues? I'm in particular looking for Necromunda gangs and Star Wars spaceships.

Flex plate is a total gamechanger for minis. Printing up numbered monsters on a custom base (with a hole for a metal plate for magnetized storage in the bottom) takes out so many steps from my workflow. a very bad sign for my painting backlog, however… Awful photo but you get the idea

I'm selling off the Flashforge printers that I have and looking to pick up a single FDM printer to print mostly terrain with out of PLA. I'd like a larger bed to work with and something fairly lower maintenance, but I don't mind building the thing, so a Prusa MK3 or similar. I still don't really want to mess with resins in my home space, even in the garage. Suggestions?

My Prusa mk3s has been fantastic but cost a bunch, my ender 3 has been fantastic, cost less, but I had to fiddle with it a ton and upgrade it. Recommend both, but honestly just get the prusa if you can afford it. It has all the bells and whistles that you'd probably want with the ender, but with none of the overhead of making it work

I started with physical sculpting, using wire and greenstuff, but the digital stuff got me interested because it’s basically industry standard these days. I started by looking at Zbrush, and ended up finally getting a full license in the past couple of weeks. Youtube is a great resource for digital sculpting. Otherwise, I just kinda do anatomical studies and random things that spring to mind.

The MK3S+ kit is probably what I'll go with. I was looking at the Lulzbot TAZ but I don't expect I'll be extruding with huge filament diameters any time soon, and even if I did, the MK3S+ could likely handle it.

InternetJunky posted:Not really. There's a bunch of patreons out there who make straight 1:1 proxies for popular games, but in that group there's a wide range of designs that vary from the completely unique to almost copying. But there are far more patreons who are coming up with completely unique stuff. I feel like even most of the straight proxy designers aren't really doing direct copies, which is why this is such a weird gray area. There's a ton of stuff out there where the design language is so close as to be indistinguishable from a release by Popular Game Company, but the specific model is completely unique and absolutely its own thing.

I also only just got into resin printing earlier this year and it's insane how effortless it is to print things with incredible quality, and you can do it easily on the cheapest printers available. I can kind of tell the difference between my 2k and 4k prints if I squint, but my bargain basement 2k printer is still having no trouble resolving facial features right down to 6mm models.

Once you slap some paint on them it's even less noticable tbh. I'm not such an incredibly painter that the details are gonna be improved by my painting. Even then - a 2k screen can have the same pixel density as a 4k screen if the 4k screen is much bigger - so it all balances out.

So, I pulled the trigger for a Prusa MK3S+ kit, so I'm gonna have fun with that. I think that what I'm probably going to investigate doing is figuring out how to build frames and armatures to print out that I can slap cardstock or foamboard onto in order to make custom dividers for storage containers like board game inserts, terrain pieces, that kind of thing. Until I have a dedicated space its own proper ventilation I will always remain pretty leery about resin 3D printing, like a fully separate workshop space (someday). Does anybody have any recommendations for generic modular STLs that can be used for a variety of terrain purposes?

Probably the best place to ask this. I'm pretty bad at blender, but I know it tends to be good for editing models and meshes and crap like that. Now, I want to emboss images onto some Warmaster shields, because freehand just isn't my friend, but I'm not only just bad at blender, I'm bad at trying to find an easy tutorial for blender that can show me what I need to do. So if y'all know of a good, simple tutorial (video, written, whatever) that can show me how zazz up my shields and banners when starting with some flat images, it would be quite helpful.
