No. You may be thinking of the north Aral Sea, which has been dammed to stop it draining into the rest of the basin. It's doing okay, but it is literally a sliver of the original lake. You can still see the river deltas which used to mark the northeast and southeast lakeshore.

It's also created a dessert which is poisonous to life as all the dust is full of pesticides which were left behind when the water dried out. The destruction of the aral sea is proper nightmare stuff.
