How about we take yet another exciting trip around the world as a pallet clenser. Chapter 24: Around the World, Part 3: Nagastrali  Yes, Yes, welcome to Nagapastrami, home of the creatures that are definitely not just to be anime versions of Warcraft 3 Monsters. Or as I like to call it, wacky waterslide world! As a fun exercise try to figure out exactly how the ship is "in port" in the water given the apparent sidelines we have to these buildings. I know that dinging Mookie on perspective is a bit trite at this point, but he is the one who just established that the ship isn't flying anymore! What exactly those buildings are supposed to look like or how big they are as left as an exercise to the reader. Especially that big one in the middle, I don't know what's going on there.  The logic of this city was stupid to me even when I was a kid. Why would these amphibious creatures bother making high-rise buildings that reach out of the water at all? To whose benefit are these enormous deep-sea skyscrapers? And if everybody is swimming anyway, why do they need bridges for the some, but not all , of the upper stories. Also I don't what Mookie thinks bridges are but, those are clearly angled in such a way as to be waterslides. This because he creatures amphibious doesn't mean there to be able to scale up a slick 90° incline. Once again obviously Dominic and Linda get special treatment. Here Mookie is trying to flex his progressive muscles with a slightly funny handicap joke, ruined by having the pun that Atello says be a grossly vulgar one about Luna being wet, which is so be overboard in terms of things to say to complete strangers that it's honestly repulsive. Just out of nowhere, a reference to vaginal secretions. In this comic for 13-year-olds. I'm not even sure I got it when I read this the first time as a child.  I find it funny that Mookie spends more time focusing on his self-insert vacation experiences than he does giving any sort of specifics as to what makes Nagastralia a special place we should care about. Like this is his chance to make us care about his world, and all he will tell us is about the experiences Dominic and Luna have learning history that we, the readers, will never see. Mookie also goes a long way to make another sex joke, coming up with a convoluted explanation that doesn't really make sense to justify another reference that seems way too modern for the setting.  I hate this sort of lazy world building too. Just random names given to otherwise mundane things like fish. It's lazy and feels fake and hald-assed. I also hate how this restaurant seems almost catered towards humans, once again creating this sense that all the other nations and races exist as a sort of exotic fairground for callanian tourists  Mookie at some point realized how tedious and limiting his Naga setting was, and so relocates quickly to the city they should've gone to in the first place ( if Mookie had conceived of it 3 strips ago), seeing as how it's instantly much more hospitable to humans. I also feel like at some point, saying that stories are valued in a society needs to stop being used to describe exotic cultures. There is no culture on earth that doesn't value storytelling to some degree. At least if Mookie had said it was oral storytelling in particular that could have been something, but instead it just once again that these fantasy nations like telling each other stories. ooooooh, so unique and different than all those other cultures that hate telling each other myths. Also I hate the fact that four-armed lizard things have huge boobs with bras for their women. A sighting of the airship, this time looming ominously as a giant rhinoceros bat, about to swoop down on the city.  Oh no it's a dude in a rubber Kaiju suit! I mean, it's a dragon! Love to bend my neck at that angle!  This is nothing Mookie loves to do more, then as though his characters are usually more eloquent and are struck dumb by the majesty they see, when in reality his characters never speak or write eloquently at all. And of course because this is DD nothing bad will happen, but I do like to think about what sort of liability rules Dominic might be breaking by going Dragon spotting with his wife away from the tour group during this cruise.  Instead, Mr. Kaiju crosses his arms (lol) and falls back on DD's favourite piece of nonsense, the text bubble with symbols that don't translate to sounds in any way. Also for whatever reason his scales went from being randomly size and shape to literally all jagged and peeling off of him. He looks itchy, right? It looks like he has some sort of skin condition.  That is a terrible creation myth. They don't even fall in love until they're both dead? Come on, get it together!  A reminder of how much Dominic loves quilt, despite how terrible character he is. Also more time with Brian, including some of the most forced puns DD has had so far  Now, I would say that in the better comic this would actually be a fun twist on the idea of necromancy. The true necromancy was a focus on death is a natural part of life, and that undeath perversion of that original intent. The only thing is that it's completely at odds with everything we have seen the comic up to this point.  Of course, Dominic can't actually be learning anything new because that would imply that he was somehow flawed and imperfect his knowledge. So once again, Dominic wasn't actually asking Brian questions that he wanted an answer to, he was just testing Brian/manipulating him for personal reasons.  An Mookie ends with a section like the slur page from starpower, where he tries to imitate what I think is good-natured ribbing between friends but comes off more as trying to scream the most hurtful thing towards each other as a joke. Next stop, as Dominic mentioned, is OLDE TUCKLEBRUCK ISLAND. And it is the point at which something magical happens in the comic: Dominic getting hit in the balls! I guarantee that the reason his Warcraft Nagas (who are themselves a pretty distinct thing from the original mythical naga) don't talk with their mouths is because he couldn't figure out how to draw them talking and had just avoided it by drawing them with their mouths shut constantly. Can't sidemouth a snout! Which is why Snout doesn't have a snout.
