MLW was pretty good pre pandemic, especially when MJF was still around with hammerstone and halliday, Jacob Fatu and Contra had some good ECW style brawls and run ins and stuff, I think sometimes this forum gets a bit silly with making GBS threads on things it doesn't watch

I tried watching MLW a few times pre pandemic. It had a lot of wrestlers I liked and I was bored out of my mind while watching it. MLW seemed to be competently booked so no idea how they manage to be so dull to be honest.

MLW has always been a disappointment. When they first launched in 2004, the re-launch, the most recent re-launch....as said before, they get lots of talented folks, but they either half rear end it or they're people I never wanted to see ever again like Austin Aries. I periodically give them a shot and it's always mediocre. Contra Unit, other than Fatu and Daivari (who was already tossed from the group) is 100% guys who aren't any good.

Most of the awesome Lucha Underground people have moved on, leaving...Mil Muertes. Who has a great look but is immobile as hell and can only have good matches when somebody pinball around for him, like Fenix or Prince Puma.

The Contra stuff was basically the only good thing they had going. The matches, even with wrestlers who are exciting and fun to watch elsewhere, were almost always bland and a chore to watch. Most of the promo work was generally pretty bad. I used to write weekly recaps for Fusion and some weeks it was just a real slog to get through which is rough considering it was a 1-hour show.

I'd consider LA Park another good thing they had going, and I liked that they booked lucha guys I didn't see elsewhere in American wrestling, but that endless stupid feud between Jimmy Havoc and Mance Warner, where they had like 50 hardcore matches and Mance won all of them, better represented the experience of watching MLW TV.

I obtained this title through beard tax.

don't forget about all the low ki squash matches every week, those were fire

but yeah when I say pretty good I mean pretty good relative to an MLW/Impact tier wrestling promotion not relative to a good one

It was someone pointing out that they didn’t let Zelina work the 9/11 show but they let her win on the show they did in the country that funded 9/11 (and so basically killed her dad).

Yeah, Salina de la Renta and her stable of goons was generally pretty entertaining. Her backstage promos were often pretty bad but when she got to be more natural in front of a crowd she was a lot better. Then there were the guys like Kotto Brazil, Myron Reed, Yuta, and Jason Cade who were always at least good. There were some bright spots for sure, but overall it was just such a drab watch week to week.

The Havoc/Warner falls count anywhere was fun because they went all around Orlando, including to Havoc/Kip/Penelope's apartment and Mance bent over of Kip's pans. It also involved a dude drinking moonshine driving them around.

Edit: When MLW does stupid stuff, it does really stupid stuff, like Filthy Island. Tom Lawlor booked an event on a private island (totally not a random lot in Orlando), which essentially was the Fire Festival of wrestling.

Edit 2: I forgot about the LA Park cooking show (he has a pork based diet).

Is there any reason why some Twitter embeds can play a video on the same page but others open an entirely new tab just to play the video? Really wish they all did the former. Is there a way around this?

From what I can tell it plays embedded if it's actually in the tweet that's linked, but not if the video is in the tweets attached to the thread or quoted.
