You know how Flair saying "Mean Gene' is amazing, I love how David Penzer introduces Sting.

Penzer is not a name I hear much about in terms of praise but he was really good.

Scott Steiner should definitely be in the conversation as someone who was elevated by being in the nWo, going from a tag team guy to a bonafide singles star. Norton, I suppose, benefited in Japan from his association with the nWo, seeing how he got an IWGP Heavyweight title run out of it.

His matches with DDP on the Nitro aired May 23rd, 1998 and April 26th, 1999 are worth watching.

He had a good match with Booker T at Spring Stampede 2000. By 2000 WCW standards, a match that is "good" might as well be akin to Flair v Steamboat or Bret v Owen.

Other than that, he's had good singles matches in TNA, but those involve guys that are among the best North American wrestlers in the last 20 years like AJ Styles and Samoa Joe, or Kurt Angle, who would be in the conversation when discussing whom the GOAT would be. Other than that, it's multi-man matches where his weaknesses due to age could be easily covered.

I was just watching his matches with Page and they were good but the crowd made them great. The Cult of Sting was real.

I think I remember hearing that Flair vs. Hogan wasn't a bigger deal in WWF because, in the minds of Hogan or the bookers, Flair was just a "regional" star. I think WWF always thought of Flair and Sting as just big fish in little ponds but they were mega stars and the crowd loved them everywhere.

Partially that's because he would get stuff wrong a lot, but this being WCW I would buy it if you told me if they gave him a card saying things like 'Hulk Hogan is the leader of Hulkmania' and other things he'd mess up in his intros.

What are you looking at?
I wonder how much it bothers Vince, Hunter, etc that they weren't able to kill off Sting when they had him for a year or so and now he's doing good work in AEW.

this glorious monument

Hunter actually winning aside, one of my biggest memories from that match was Sting breaking HHH's hammer and looming large over him.
That and Scott Hall bumping.

But yeah, even a relatively normal person in Vince's position might have trouble looking back at the Monday Night Wars objectively. With a narcissist like Vince there is no chance whatsoever.

Buffer was one of the better parts of WCW so I wouldn't really complain

Lord knows they needed a way to juice up a match as the years went by.

Him trademarking Ready to Rumble is pretty brilliant and I don't begrudge him making money off it even if I'd never pay that much for ring intro (Though hell it sure did work for the big 96/97 Hogan NWO matches)

Having some pomp and circumstance before a big match definitely helps put it over the top as a big deal. Ultimately the booking also needs to back up the importance of the match for it to work, so it wouldn't make the Queen of the Ring or whatever matter, but a special ring announcer or ceremony before Kenny/Hangman would help make it feel even more special.

Buffer was fine they just overused him and yeah after a while the main event scene being the mess that it was made the whole thing worse.

Wasn’t buffer’s fault, to be sure, just how it was at that point
