I finally sat down and read one of those DPS League builds and pulled together a decent amount of the energy build they recommend...and my sorta ok 20-30% crit build jumped to like 70-80% crits it felt like. Finally getting some of the destructive power I see others doing in battlezones at times.

Maybe, but they might just be because of the bays on the original model in the same place.

You don't really have to build around a flight deck escort, it can just be a bonus.

Always been a fan of the Sabre look but definitely not a fan of this horseshoe crab looking flying saucer thing. At least you can always skin it to look like a sunfish rotated 90 degrees, the way it was meant to be.

fake edit: actually this arguably looks more like a sunfish rotated 90 degrees than the original did. whatever. I'm just not a big fan

It's not a great starfleet ship but it's a great evil mirror universe version.

I like the way the lower half works better, I wonder if you'll be able to mix and match the 'saucer' and the 'hull'.

Yeah it's surprisingly bulky and mean looking for what was always a tiny ship. It absolutely works as a Terran ship.

MikeJF
Dec 20, 2003

Looking at it more I doubt you'll be able to do much mixmatching but if you can I'd love the saucer from this with the original everything else, make a less pointy Saber without the polygns of the original.

Speaking of Reddit links, here's the proper Saber revamp. And did the mirror nova get linked? Not a fan of most but the nacelles might be nice.

And apparently Tribble has new ship exploding effects. Which would be nice but let's be honest it's not like you can really see anything during combat these days. (Also, that's the Disco Kobayashi, have we had that before?) The final shockwave looks a lot more visible at least.

Discovered yesterday the fine print of omni-beams, that you can equip 1 max from a lobi/quest/reputation set, and 1 max from crafting/lockbox. Sadly the lockbox omnis are pretty expensive, but it does make setting up a 4/3 beam escort a little simpler.

Taerkar

kind of into it, really

I've done 5/3 DBB ships with two Omnis and the Kinetic Cutting Beam in the aft slots. While the KCB doesn't benefit from beam skills it's still a good damage dealer.

As well the KCB/Assimilated Module 2pc is pretty good for BO builds.

I wish they'd lift the restriction off omnis, or even better just make all single arrays omnis, beams are meh in general so it won't break the game and gods know cruisers could use the help.

Yeah I'll probably never drop the KCB since it was such a neat thing to get all those years ago

Agreed, but since when has that mattered to Cryptic? Beams were meh a year ago when they nerfed the ba'ul AP/kemocite interaction, which at best allowed a high-end bfaw build (including a bunch of lobi gear) to compete with a mid-range cannon build.

BTW, I don't know if anyone here posted about this when it launched a few months ago, but there's a new role-playing podcast called "Oh These Those Stars of Mine" that's using the 1-page Lasers and Feelings rules to do a very 90s-Trek style let's play. It's pretty funny IMO, done by the team that does Rude Tales of Magic, and I figure probably a lot of overlap in the potential audience of people playing STO on purpose.

Their last episode was their take on 'Cause and Effect', and pretty solid representation of the series. Just putting it out there for the Trek-heads :)

Something I discovered this morning: if you have an endeavour to harvest space materials, all the delta quadrant patrols have a space gather node and you can just rabbit off to that instead of fighting, warp out, and jump into another patrol.

MikeJF
Dec 20, 2003

Oh, if you have an endeavour to harvest space materials, Japori system near the Dyson Sphere has three nodes, all of which are outside the combat, you can just fly around, pick up all three, leave and repeat for six in under a minute.

And of course for ground ones, Step Between Stars starts at the Dyson gateway and has two ground nodes as soon as you spawn in, just enter and leave three times.

How do you get rid those green Borg warts that Franklin Drakes installs to your ship in the Spectres? They did not disappear after I completed that story arc.

I tried resetting visuals, switching ship and redesigning it but no, they cling on to my ship regardless. The starbase engineer also says that my ship is intact, so they aren't fixable condition either.

EDIT: Nevermind, found it. It was a trait I just needed to turn off. I didn't even know this game had consumable/one-time use traits like that.

Did you mean the Assimilated Console? Yeah, there aren't too many consoles that add cosmetics to your ship.

Asimo

The assimilated console is the only one I'm pretty sure. Probably because they ran into too many players going "how do I turn off these borg zits".

Fidel Cuckstro

Just realized that the Cat's Paw TFO is probably the best way for people looking to do Achievements to knock off the 'kill Devedians' ones. If you focus on the adds at the last fight, you can kill 40-50 Devedians per run, which is pretty good since I think you can get max 15-20 in most of the Devedian story missions.

Der Kyhe
Jun 25, 2008

Actually yes that assimilated console did it ...which brings me to my next question, what the hell is that "trait" that keeps showing up in my character then? It is something called "we have adapted" and it gives -100% radiation damage, probably related to mostly and only to the last mission of the Spectres where you travel back to destoy that asteroid.

I am starting to get the feeling that these "Galaxy at large" or more likely "have not been debugged or tested in 8+ years" missions are a mixbag of surprises. And cheap bootleg version of Dr. McCoy.

Speaking of idiot teammates, the Triolic Pattern Enhancer puts you out of phase. Drop it next to one of the levers. You've got a 25% of picking the right one to make the end boss vulnerable instead of watching idiots stand around shooting at an invuln boss.

Isn't the end boss "you need to pull all these levers but you only have time to do it one at the time?"

Anyway yeah, the triolic pattern enhancer works for that fight. Shame about the 8 min cooldown.

Only one is active at a time, so just plop near a rock and check it when the message about a teammate being phased pops up. 25% of the time you get to pull it right away.

Yesterday's run had two of us with the device, 3 of us with the chain sword and the cone pull module, and 2 paradox bombs, for the skeletons. Turrets/crystals for the skull. It's really hilarious nuking the skeleton boss room with the Delta 3 piece. Set it off and watch the pubbies spin around confuses looking for something to shoot. Things went very quickly.

Yeah I think if you're starting from scratch and a tac captain, a Good Day to Die is incredible. It gives you another (short) cooldown that's 40% bonus damage while it's up.

Since the start of summer. I think it was the Genesis bundle that killed it the first time. It's come back a few times, briefly, and was doing pretty well up until the latest round of big z-store sales cryptic's been running. And with more sales coming for Black Friday and Christmas, not to mention at least two new T6 ships that we know of and probably a new Mudd's bundle sometime soon, don't expect it to get any better before 2022 at best.
