For now 90% is fluff about the future metaverse. The only concrete things:

-Blade and sorcery for quest
-Gta san andreas vr

-Social home (invite friend to your Quest home)
-Custom home (change it)
-Possibility to use a different account separate to your normal FB account, for work

edit: I literally muted the stream, lol.

How much are they going to cut from San Andreas considering what was cut from RE4? Are there any other games in VR right now that have you running around in an open world with the ability to jump in a car and drive around? Just seems like it'd be disorienting as hell to play that game in VR.

They really have zero reason to announce a new headset yet anyway though. Nobody is even close to competing with the Quest 2, and they are still selling like crazy.

He's soooo dreamy...

Honestly glad there wasn't a Quest 2 successor, it's been a while since a piece of Oculus hardware felt like it had more than two years of active support.

Everything else is mostly just kinda neat but not super exciting, the kind of stuff that needs to be done but doesn't really blow anyone's skirt up in a big announcement video like this.

Meta is a terrible name but it was the inevitable one.

Well, at least they are still announcing things.

This is an assumption on my part, but both the Android and iOS versions of this are being done via software rather than the camera hardware, which makes them little more than 'comfort' lights.

Quest 2 isn't enough of an upgrade for me to upgrade my quest 1, especially given how little I use it

If the Quest 3 or Quest 4 is 2x better in every way (we're still early in the exponential quality increase curve) then a lot of people will buy it. I'm reasonably sure that when you can render a "photorealistic Skyrim" on a $129 AIO vr headset (or wireless to cpu-base-station) a lot of people will buy it just to use it 30-60 minutes a week. That's hard to imagine, but if you look at the technology squished into the iwatch, and compare that to where things were in 2005, it's quite a jump. There's a lot more volume in a VR headset

Facebook really is the only company ideally situated to do a metaverse thing, it's a ridiculous moonshot, but this is the moonshot corner Zuckerberg has painted himself into, he might as well lean into it

Finally, nothing on a 10 year horizon for oculus needs to be profitable, just shipping a revenue* product is mostly a side effect of agile development. There's so much money sloshing around that undercutting Q2 sales isn't really a concern at stake here

Yeah; I think most laptop cameras are the same now. Still, they should protect somewhat against "the EULA gave us permission to spy on you" even if they don't really protect against criminal hacking.

The lights aren’t controlled by the app using the camera/mic, if that’s what you’re getting at. The app asks for control and the OS turns the light on

The point is that a compromised device could theoretically not turn the light on, where if the light were implemented purely in hardware then it's on at any time the sensor is receiving power.

I meant it's the software layer controlling the light. Ideally the camera hardware itself should be turning the light on whenever the camera is being used, regardless of what is using it.

Apparently we’re getting an “ASW but better” for native Quest titles called Application Spacewarp. Up to 70% performance improvement across CPU/GPU. Not sure if it’s coming to PCVR but I’m about 75% of the way through the video and they haven’t mentioned it yet.

That's in the extreme case of rendering at a measly 36 fps and then reprojecting to 72 fps. Maybe acceptable in a very games without action and more 'static'.

e: but doing 60fps and reproject to 120 fps would be cool!
