Sporadically you get people who want to cut military spending instead - or increase taxes. Not that I think the guy in question wanted either of those.

Contract marriages aren't super duper common, but they also aren't uncommon. They're technically not allowed, but in practice it almost never goes anywhere in terms of punishment, because it's relatively hard to prove motive in those cases.

Not that he probably knew the difference, but wouldn't the deficit mean simply balancing the federal budget to be net $0 rather than negative? Bringing the national debt to $0 would be paying everyone back.

Bonds, by definition, are debt financing. If you have an outstanding bond issue you are in debt.

A balanced budget in these terms means not accruing any MORE debt.

Where the language (and understanding) usually stops in things like this is talking about the latter as "deficit spending", i.e. a budget that spends more than it takes in.

And you're over-thinking all of this. The terminology and accounting are meaningless in this context. It's just using a bunch of words that don't sound as blatant as "gently caress the poor".

This is also not any kind of a surprise and I would be shocked to learn in any given deployment if at least one person did not do this. It works out to a couple extra grand a month. Just have to pray the person you married doesn't run off with the money a month before the deployment ends.

Also loving lol at his superiors being jealous bitches

He found a way to game the system and they were pissed they didn't do it too. Its extra funny if he was like a sergeant making more than the officers. Can't have their lessers making more than them.

Its not really a secret in the military, getting married is a nice money bump. Also living out of the barracks.

Even beyond contract marriages, you have people getting married way too early in the military because "I wanna live off base, and I kinda like this person" or "Whoops, protection failed, if it was even used at all". Soooo many divorces following those. So many. At least the contract marriage peeps go in planning on an end point.

I'm not a lawyer, but I would also imagine that if the marriage was an actual legal marriage and consummated (you can definitely tell I'm not a lawyer) then isn't that just a marriage with a pre-nup?

AITA for telling my sister in law get over me ruining her wedding

quote:

So I (30) was due two weeks before my bothers (27m) wedding back in 2019

But the day of I went into labour while getting ready. I planned a home birth with a few family members (mother, father, both grandmothers, youngest bother, aunts) and since it was the first grandchild from my side everyone was excited to be there . Because my labour and delivery took 16 hours they obviously ended up missing the whole wedding to be with me

I will fully admit I was glad because I needed them more because a birth is more important than a wedding. My bother was upset and kept arguing that they could have come for a few hours, he was told my wellbeing was more important than a silly party (moms words not mine )

He was low contact till my sister in law(29f) found out she was pregnant with triplets. my brother and sil have been enjoying all the attention because obviously triplets don’t happen often and it’s the first multiple birth in our family in 19 years. Every time I visit my parents or ring a family member it’s triplet talk or a conversation about my bother/sil

On to the situation it was my 30th today and I decided to hold myself a bit of a party to celebrate because the big 3–0 because it only comes around once so why not live up my last day of youth!!

Days leading up to it my sister in law kept making jokes about going into labour to pay me back for the wedding. I’d just roll my eyes and tell her to grow up

Tonight while the party was in full bloom my sister faked her waters breaking (with the help of my brother) and going into labour. Ofc all attention was on them, than while they pretended to call an ambulance my youngest brother brought in the cake. everyone started laughing. My sister in law said “hehehe pay back but anyway happy birthday op” than everyone started singing I was so angry I cut everyone off because my mood and party was ruined

I turned to my sister in law and said “get over me ruining your lovely wedding everyone came to my side out of their free will and btw you where a massive bridezilla”

My brother told me back off but I told him it was pathetic he was using a his wife’s pregnancy to get attention from our parents and told him I’d be gifting a therapy session for a baby shower gift. They left and everyone turned on me saying they all know and they where part of joke (if you haven’t guessed it, it was to get attention to the door my brother was bringing the cake in)

I ended up leaving in tears because my birthday was ruined

A home birth that takes 16 hours.

Should I (24F) break up with my bf (24M) because of his bigoted opinions?

quote:

We love and respect each other with no trust issues and plan to marry in the future. However, whenever we discuss anything remotely socio-political, both of us can never seem to keep the argument civil. It has caused a lot of fights, and our solution has been to avoid those topics of conversation.

I indulge in socio-political content and like to discuss the same with the people around me. Sometimes I can't stop myself from sharing a post or two with him, but unfortunately, it is good enough to instigate a heated argument. He bases his opinions on what the general public believes, so basically what the mainstream media feeds him, which sometimes can be an inaccurate depiction of reality.

In contrast, he is a decent human being who means no harm. He will never hurt somebody because of their ethnicity or gender. He treats me well and never looks down on me. Furthermore, he encourages me to pursue my dreams even if it costs the relationship.

So, should I ignore his stance on these matters because it does not affect our life directly? Or should I break up because we have differing values?

Sorry if this question gets asked too much, but I would appreciate your advice.

No the appeal of a home birth is that everyone would ne focused solely on her, rather than taking place in a maternity ward where everyone is an expecting mother and she's not special.

I was briefly married to a friend of mine when I was in the Army and it owned. I got to get a sweet apartment off post and a travel buddy/wingwoman, she got some spending money and a two year vacation in Italy. BAH pays for two bedrooms. We didn't gently caress each other, maintained the lie at three or four mandatory fun events a year and divorced as friends.

A++ would recommend.

Back in the bad old don't ask, don't tell days it was quite common for people to couple up as mutual beards.

So I (25f) have been best friends with Eric (25m) since we started kindergarten

He was there throughout everything even spied from the next table when me and my (26m) husband went on first date and I did the same when he started dating his wife.
I was first person he called when his wife found out she was pregnant both time and even while she was in labour I help him (by text)

So April when I suspected I was pregnant he was with me when I read the results of my test even help me plan a cute way to tell my husband

We have been each others rock and I couldn’t think of anyone better than him and my husband to be there while I’m in labour.

Unfortunately if things keep happening the way they do I’ll be only able to have one person in the room with me and that person will be Eric. He was on broad and I planned to tell my husband when I knew for sure (at them moment it normal rules but obviously things can change over bug rules at any time) but Eric’s wife found out and showed up at my house screaming for a paternity test because she believes the baby is his (it’s 10000% not)

My husband was in shock and told me he’s sick of third wheeling our relationship and pack a bag than left. Eric sent me a text saying he won’t be with me when I go into labour and he will be limiting our contact from now on

I’m honestly in shock at the events and have gotten so much hate
