Clearly the Melvins and Corrosion of Conformity were far more industrial than FLA after deep analysis. I guess the Melvins will play with anyone. Buzz doesn't seem like the kinda guy that would tolerate Al, but maybe I'm wrong. Still, the line up of that tour gels better with Ministry's sound for the last decade or so, yeah?

One last post about Revenant, if you can please excuse me for my enthusiasm. My record label said this about it on their Facebook page: "We're back! OUT november 26th 2021 "REVENANT" by solo underground act Tangent Strategy, US electro-industrial-power noise project based in Japan. A hymn to softwares, a triumphant succession of industrial, ebm, powernoise harmonies made up according to the episodes of cold midtempo drum programming lines, effervescent punctuation of sequencers, disturbing transmissions, electronic vortexes, caustic frequencies, cosmic effects, unadorned synth symphonies and vocals ranging from threatening harsh emissions to poisonous reverberated whispers. GET READY " It's not what I would have thought to say about myself but I appreciate it! The distribution is being handled by Audioglobe so it should be worldwide and go to the normal industrial music specialist retailers, but I'll have a few copies for sale too once the release date hits and if anyone is interested, just throw me a PM.

EK Product does have a Bandcamp but not all of their releases are on that page, and most of their artists maintain their own bc pages separately. Their emphasis is on physical releases and they primarily distribute through Audioglobe, an Italian label/distributor, so probably the usual suspects of industrial music online stores will have it for physical purchase.

Someone affirm my decision to buy a Project Pitchfork ticket in Berlin in February for a solo trip from Canada. I just want to go away somewhere to distract from separation. Never been to Germany. Regret missing the Helsinki Industrial festival ... didn't know about it until just after. Would have been worth it for Ashbury Heights, Covenant, Hoccico. Also I have friends in Tallinn.

New Jersey is definitely not as cool as Berlin or Helsinki, but my friend MORIS BLAK is playing Unconvention in NJ this weekend, and my other Brian friend is DJing the event as well. I really wanna go to that festival in LA that HEALTH is playing, but it's Thanksgiving weekend so airfare is ridiculous.

But yes Pitchfork puts on a great show, you’re making a good call, and Germany is a great place to visit even in February.

Yeah, I was at the Hellsinki Industrial Festival, of course. I didn't actually intend to go because the original lineup was complete dogshit, but every cancelled act and their replacement got me hootin and hollerin more and more. Covenant always owns live, Ashbury Heights was great (even for me as someone who has never really like them much - the new songs were especially good), Priest is amazing live despite very uneven albums. Preclub with Finnish VVOV and Khroma plus Pedigree from Estonia was great stuff as well.

Quick question for you all. I'm coming up with ideas for a live show on my own (albeit, to be staged well after the current pandemic wave!), but since it's just going to be me, it's going to be very difficult to come up with a compelling show if most of my content is pre-recorded. So, what is it that makes a good industrial live show for you guys? Is it atmosphere, vibes, the vocalist's attitude, or the energy in general? I don't know many single-act live performers aside from Dirk Ivens of Dive (and world's end girlfriend if you stretch it outside industrial), and all the bigger studio project bands tend to hire guys just for the live show. Curious to see your answers!

Auritech posted:Quick question for you all. It's the energy from the stage in general for me. Check out ESA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qfib9NX6Fyo for example. It's just one guy but he's bringing a lot of energy and attitude to the vocals and is triggering percussion live so he's not just hunched over staring at a laptop. I 've seen a ton of solo laptop jockeys and tbh when it's just one or two people behind a laptop or a stack of hardware on a folding table, if they're doing something more than just hunching over staring at it, that's enough to engage me. If they're enthusiastically controlling some part of it live, or even acknowledging that most of it is pre-recorded with limited live tweaking and just dancing around then that's pretty good. When you watch Dive, it's clear the music is pre-recorded but it doesn't matter because Dirk is owning that stage. Similar some artists are clearly not doing much that's actually 'live' but are having fun behind the gear, dancing, and being more dramatic with their limited knob tweaking than a Boiler Room DJ The funny part is that some of the acts who are actually doing it all fully live are the least engaging for me IMHO because they're focussed the most on their gear. Watching someone staring intently at the table to patch and tweak a modular rig on stage for 45 minutes is only really interesting to gear nerds unless there's something else going on. If you've got the skills (or friends who have)/necessary gear/venue setup for it yourself then visuals as a backdrop can be good though especially for solo projects where there isn't much to do on stage. Although if you're going to do that, please please don't use horror film clips or gore shots and be careful if it's military stuff because those kinds of material are a) incredibly played out and b) can be pretty problematic or offputting at the very least. edit: basically if it's gonna be partly pre-recorded but with live vocals, own that IMO. Don't be behind the gear/laptop if you're not really using it and are just doing vocals. Be out in front if the vocals are the live part IMO and if you've got the stage space/confidence to do that edit 2: all this is from the perspective of someone who's always in the audience rather than on stage so people who actually have performed live might have v different opinions! ^^^ Agreed with most of the above post. Horror clips if it fits your music (my friend is the dude behind MORIS BLAK and a lot of his music is directly influenced/inspired by horror, so he uses clips in his live shows). But like Octopus said, be mindful of gore and definitely don't include anything with sexual violence or misogyny (looking at you, Combichrist!). MB and I are both huge horror nerds so I've helped him source clips from movies and it's almost always weird/occulty type stuff (eg from Lovely Molly, Mandy, Possum etc). One of his earlier clips had a screaming woman I believe but he removed it for the aforementioned reasons. Military, if it's anti-military/anti-war is generally fine with most industrial crowds in my experience, although I'm also in a very blue state. Not sure what type of tech is involved, but pre-programmable lighting can be cool if it's done with colors that sync up with the music. Some laptop and tech fiddling is fine, but to reiterate Octopus' post, if you're a vocalist then let that drive your performance!

Thanks! That actually really helps because it gave me some things I hadn't thought about before, which I'll roll into my performance. I do plan on a visual component but I don't plan on anything taken from fiction or anything particularly graphic. It's still preliminary but I have a thought about what to do, it's just finding the right clips and then stitching them together. The last time I watched a show with projections was with Manufactura and Converter way back in 2003, but the projections were not connected to the music. Oddly enough, the thing that inspired me the most to use projections was a YouTube clip of Genocide Organ in the early 00s, so I'm supposing the best course of action is to use projections that do not time to the music, but do flow with the stage. If all goes to plan, I'll be doing my first show at a Japanese club, which has its own set of issues but we'll see how it goes.

Auritech posted:Quick question for you all. What works for me is lighting and engaging the audience. Now I have a live keyboardist but I started with just backing tracks and doing live vocals. If you have lighting that's programmed well to music it makes a huge difference. It also creates really dynamic images of your show.
