I see this every year and I don’t understand what it’s needed for. Surely however you’ve got it set up it’s still going WALL ->->-> LIGHTS all in one direction. How do they end up with something needing power having a female socket on it?

Euro so perhaps I don't understand 120v insanity, but you string your lights up wrong with the male plug at the top end of the roof away from the wall socket.

I think the big one is when you hang up multiple chained strings and realise one is backwards.

Why are these deadly? I know they are, I just don't know why. Also: the third pic's text has some very "this is not a place of honor..." energy.

Vincent posted:Why are these deadly? I know they are, I just don't know why. IIRC it has something to do with how live parts should never be exposed, and a male-to-male cord would mean if you plug it in, the two prongs on the other end would be energized. Like sticking a fork into an electrical socket but now you don't even need a fork.

Things with a plug normally plug into the mains and provide power to useful things, like fridges or TV or sex robots. This plugs into the mains and provides power to whatever is nearby, like the carpet or your toddler or any flammable items. It's like the difference between a propane bbq and a gas leak.

Vincent posted:Why are these deadly? I know they are, I just don't know why. Handful of reasons. If you plug each end into a wall socket, there will be an electrical fire in a few seconds. WRT Christmas lights, it means that all the other end, there is a live male plug. If you touch it across those terminals, it completes a 110-V circuit and fries you. If something else grounds across it, it fries that and stars a fire.
