Kvlt! posted:Not at all, because what I'm imagining has no Jason Sudeikis in it I wouldn't call Colossal Lynchian, or horror, but it's a good movie. Sudeikis, who I can normally take or leave, is actually really good in it.

When we were watching the fight scene in Colossal my wife was like “god, he’s so abusive” and I was like “oh right that is what’s going on” because the whole time I had just been sitting there thinking about godzillas.

One time during sleep paralysis a lady materialized out of the darkness in the corner of the room and slowly floated towards me. She looked like she had the texture of TV static.

I have something called visual snow which is basically a layer of TV static over my vision. I didn't know I had it until I was at an eye appointment and a doctor told me about it. Everyone kinda looks like TV static from far away.

Apparently some people develop it (I think usually related to drug use?) but I've just always had it. The doc told me it was medically harmless so it doesn't bother me. I suppose if I watch a grainy movie I get double the grain!

Well I managed to do 30 new horror movies this October but got so burnt out on it I didn't even bother posting past the first two in the challenge thread. Best of: Eraserhead, The Fly, The House on Haunted Hill (old one), Titane, Black Christmas, and May the Devil Take You Too You guys probably already discussed The Medium, so I'm gonna look back and search to see if it's worth a watch, seems so. I haven't been in the mood for a possession-type movie but it's been in my queue too long now.

I watched Summer of '84 last night, I thought it was pretty good. Probably not a whole lot to discuss since the synopsis is that a group of kids think their neighbor is a serial killer. Some great moments of life as a 15 year old misfit, paired with the existential dread that they could be the next kid to disappear.

With horror, you've really got to narrow in on what it is you like most about horror to get relevant suggestions. Also it would help to list some elements that you love enough to be able to ignore significant faults in a film. But otherwise, yeah, check out TSZDT.

Yea definitely for someone who hasn't seen a lot of the all-time greats, you're pretty safe when you watch something in the top-50 on that list. Any horror fan definitely needs to see stuff like The Exorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Night of the Living Dead, The Shining, Halloween, Psycho, The Evil Dead etc. etc.

On the topic of what we find frightening, I remembered a Looney Tunes episode that frightened me as a kid. Porky and Sylvester visit an old hotel, and the beings living in the walls don't like their presence. Lots of trying to kill Sylvester & Porky, lots of eyes staring out from holes in the wall. Then, I remembered Don't Be Afraid of the Dark. I loved most of that movie. The reveal disappointed me a little bit, but the final kill made up for it. I guess I find thousands of small, malevolent beings "haunting" a house frightening. I can't think of another movie with a similar setup, other than rat-based horror like Willard.

RobbZombae posted:I watched The Entity for the first time in years last night, how the gently caress did this get made? It was a really popular theme around that time. Obviously the Exorcist is an example, but also see THE DEMON SEED with Julie Christie. You have to remember there were several points in the 70s where it was thought that porno would go completely mainstream, and the exploitation response to this was to poke and prod in various ways to inure general audiences to more risque imagery.
