What do you mean? They let Klingons use Federation ships so technically they got a ton of new ships. :v:

Hey, maybe they'll give Cryptic the models and we can get an interior out of it!

Huh, it's nice to have some Ferengi ship design visuals if I ever wanted to use the non-D'Koras from some of the Star Trek Adventures sourcebooks were I to get into that TTRPG (where so many of the official ships don't have official visuals, only descriptions and stats).

I actually rather liked the star cruisers looks. Sure it handled like a whale but it was an interesting design. So the Protostar could be fun, also it's bridge is awesome, it would Odyssey tier in terms of cool bridges, which is probably why they wouldn't do it. :v: They still haven't even given the Donnie's a unique bridge.

More allied alien ships would be good, as my heart wants a bunch of t6 Vulcan ships.

Bridges don't make back the money they cost to make these days so they don't do them anymore unless they're going to show up in an episode. I was just wondering if the protostar might end up an exception on account of they might be able to get the 3D files and just simplify them, save some time.

Yeah it's a drat shame, though I get it. The TOS interior is STILL bugged with people melting into the floor. Still I love when a ship gets a unique bridge, I love my Konnie bridge and hate that there's no interior, and while I don't have a T6 Odyssey I absolutely flew it at T5 just because that bridge is cool as hell.

Oddy was a cool bridge at the time but these days it looks so rough, lots of pointy polygons and all the textures are pixely as hell.

No, it's the most recent one (since 2017, using the 2d20 system) and the physical and digital-only versions of its Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook are advertised as including a code for a T6 Tzenkethi Shuk'din Escort for PC, while both versions of the Beta Quadrant Sourcebook are advertised as including a T3 Gorn Phalanx Science Vessel code.

The original and Klingon core rulebooks have the D'Kora-class along with three NPCs, while the Alpha Quadrant Sourcebook has three different NPCs, an 'Acquisition-class scout' (a centuries-old but warp-capable armed shuttle design, possibly this RPG's name for the shows' Ferengi shuttles?), and a seemingly-original 'Ul'ess-class mobile cruiser' that's twice the length of a D'deridex with manufacturing/shuttlebay, marketplace, and luxury resort sections (this last one being so well-outfitted that the ship's stats may be used to assist the crew's Task rolls in hosting negotiations).

Complete with carrying strap! Note that its ship selection is limited to a few 23rd century classes, most of which are already found in the original (Starfleet) and Klingon core rulebooks as playable and NPC starships. On the other hand, as the de facto second revision of the original rules it does "implement some of the rules tweaks [they] introduced in the Klingon core", which the RPG.net review called "many times better" in layout, presentation, and accessibility than the original. For example, this will include "the optional, fan-favorite set of character advancement and reputation rules introduced in the Klingon core".

MikeJF posted:

There's an official YouTube playlist for the most basic rules, plus free quickstart guides that each feature a planetside mission with a pre-generated away team. For starship rules you'll have to look elsewhere such as this basic starship combat video or this more comprehensive video which covers starship weapons and bridge officer Tasks overall, but there's several parallels to the character rules such as starship stats being used to assist the bridge officers' Tasks. For example, a tactical officer uses their own Control and Security scores when rolling to fire weapons, modulating shields, or activating tractor beams, with each roll being assisted by different pairs of starship scores. (In the video, NPC starship crew quality determines their scores when rolling Tasks.)

What has the Black Friday sale been like in the previous years? -75% everything, or something lame like "bundles -30%"?

It's at 6-7 days backlog right now. The backlog didn't seem to increase when they announced the new ship bundle, and didn't increase with the current flash promo sale. Maybe the sales have been so constant that they don't even push players to try to convert dil anymore. Or maybe a bunch of players are just saving up until the backlog drops down to only a couple of days worth.

There's probably also a lot of people sitting on sizable dill stashes trying to cash out in anticipation of a black friday / christmas sale.

The best way is using research assignments (lockbox doff missions that give insane amounts of XP). During a bonus XP event, you can usually get from 12 (unlock the ability to use research assignments) to 52 (unlock admiralty) with about 10 of them. Unfortunately, they've gone way up in price lately, and last I checked were running about 5m each on the exchange.

The best free way to do it is probably running patrols until you hit 52. Admiralty throws XP at you, so once that's unlocked you can finish up by just running a handful of admiralty missions.

I spent the Rep T6 fleet modules I had on a baby Galaxy just because I love the Galaxy.

Although I do wish they had the nacelles without the venture-style phaser strips, those weren't on the onscreen model.

Really wish, given the way they're running out of canon ships, that they'd push the rest of the canon Galaxy family in the game, the Springfield, the Challenger, maybe update the Chyenne. And the Olympic too, I guess. But I guess they're probably too small and obscure to sell enough to be worth the effort (even if they're mostly just Galaxy kitbashes).

Be nice to see them flying around in the background, though. Always bugged me there was a whole generation of Galaxy-based TNG-era ships that existed but were only onscreen for seconds, and the only Galaxy-family we really saw was the Nebula. It'd be cool to be able to have a family portrait of them in-game.

Olympic might come sooner just because it came back in lower decks.

Surprised me a bit they didn't have a T6 Patrol Escort right off the bat when they introduced T6, didn't it come out right before? The Tempest was one of the better looking ships at the time even if it's a bit dated now.

From what I remember, they added those Venture-style phaser strips on the nacelles because they needed some beam weapon hardpoints in the aft dorsal firing arc, and there's literally nothing suitable there on the original model. The Galaxy has those two little phaser strips near the aft torpedo tube on the engineering hull, but there's nothing on the N'Awlins. It's a compromise, but an understandable one.

In general the kitbashes are bad and only the New Orleans and Cheyenne elevate up to acceptable is because they ended up looking like another class that the designers actually spent real time on.

It’s a shame nobody’s ever fixed the proportions of the New Orleans to make it look good, either.

They should do T6/visual updates for the star cruiser and deep space research vessels tho, 2 reasonably nice original cryptic designs imo

If I'm reading the wiki right, yes, it came out in Season 9 and Tier 6 ships came out six months later, with Delta Rising. But it doesn't really surprise me. Cryptic faced a lot of backlash with the introduction of T6 ships, and spent quite awhile trying to convince players that they did not expect everyone to buy new T6 replacements of all their ships (they did, they just didn't want to be obvious about it). Hence the T5U system so people could keep using their existing ships, and not releasing T6 versions of recently released T5 ships.

Yeah I'm not a fan of a lot of the Wolf 359 kitbashes. The Challenger is a total mess that I'm generally not a fan of. Freedom is one of the worst ships ever made. The Springfield is probably the closest to being an okay ship out of what's not in STO.

Ehhhh, not really, it's got a full engineering hull and all.

Honestly, a Galaxy Miranda would almost be the Akira. It's very Galaxy styled in most ways and it's got the saucer/rollbar+pod/nacelles as main components, it's just a bit more stretched out with the struts.

Yeah there's a reason I didn't mention the Freedom, or, god forbid, the Niagra. The Springfield could be turned into something decent, there's a lot of gaps to fill in anyway on it. The challenger I don't mind as a very basic 'goes from here to there and that's about it' ship.
