It is really funny when journalists or video game designers form a union. The purpose of a union is to take control a critical sector of the economy in the interests of the working class. If the New York Times journalists just go on strike, everything would continue as is, if not get better. The only real critical sector is the increasingly gig-ified carshare and food delivery people who serve the oppressed downwardly mobile degree-havers, and the former don't even legally qualify as employees.

There's a pretty good book called The Five Families you should read, it explains how the mob has expanded and contracted with the times but they're still all over things like construction, garbage collecting, ports, etc. using organized labor as a front.
