This right here is what is breaking a lot of brains, really. That everything continues to continue "normally" even as everything is demonstrably getting worse, and while anyone paying attention can see that it's not ever going to get better, but everything is normal.

And we have to act like it's normal, go to work to pay bills and participate in a consumer society which is dying and which we know is dead, but which it is impossible to drop out of because the costs of doing so are completely out of reach or legislated out of existence for almost everyone.

It feels like every day a steel bar is bending a little bit further, the pressure is building, at this point the end of the world would be a relief compared to this forced liminal state of anxious existential horror.

Nice to see the waking nightmare I live in reflected in some mainstream media. I am actually losing my mind, every day, from the vicious contrast between the horrible truth and the total inaction around me. The increasing doom is almost a comfort now, since if that really is true I can simply relax, eat the treats the horrible treat machine makes, hold my loved ones, and weep quietly.

But it doesn't *really* resolve anything, because the suffering of millions now and billions later will not stop being wrong, and the reduction in deaths and suffering will remain possible even as the world burns, and my heart and mind will still scream in a tone so piercing that even the most potent weed can't plug my ears as it says "This is wrong, this is wrong, this is the worst and most disgusting crime our failed species has EVER DONE, TO ALL LIFE ON EARTH! IT IS A GENOCIDE OF ALL LIVING THINGS, IT IS WRONG, IT IS WRONG, IT IS WRONG"

You seem to still be suffering from the just world fallacy. There is no justice in circumstances. Something being wrong has no impact on the people involved unless such a thing is inflicted. Everyone responsible will see zero consequences outside of random chance.

What on earth? It is exactly the injustice of the world that makes me go crazy. It is processing that injustice as a call to action and feeling like I can't do poo poo that makes me loving lose it. Just world? Of course not!

God, yes, this is exactly it. It would be better if I lived in an authoritarian socialist state and was drafted into some kind of environmental strike corps where my frail body was broken labouring to restore ecology and build fire breaks and build a loving nuclear power plant :sigh: all that physical pain would still be a balm to the psychological torment of all this, and at least my enfeeblement and death would be part of a societal project for a better world.

The existential horror of our historical moment, it's a bitch. Not only do most of our lives have no meaning, but many of us are engaged in the destruction of meaning or any possibility of meaning.

the most backward take. humanity stands at the cusp of realizing its grand destiny. tens of thousands of years of consumption have brought us here, and you whine? imagine a tuberculosis bacterium mewling like this as the host's lungs start to fill with fluid. generations have stood on the shoulders of one another, all working together to bring us here. its is only now, at the great dying, that we realize true meaning.

Bingo. It's the stupidest poo poo in the world to be promoting violent acts before the establishment of a vanguard and organized working class, duh! You'll just get some dummies - who may have been useful once the preconditions were met, even - arrested or killed for no reason.

The only thing sociopaths will care about when the "wow, things are really looking bad" phase hits is "how can we enslave and/or eat the less fortunate to keep my belly full/my lights on for an extra day/week/month/year?"

Empathy has been slowly being eradicated from the Western conscience over the past few decades. The west has been being fed largely by slave labor for decades now. We realize there's ~probably a reason~ that (some) food is as cheap as it is, but no one wants to know how the literal sausage is made because too many are in poverty or living paycheck-to-paycheck and even the smallest increase in the cost of living would break them and/or send them deeper into debt.

I was alive and old/clear-headed enough to remember the :aaa: and :black101: when gas went above $1/gallon nationally for the first time. I lived in Virginia Beach at the time and I remember hearing "kill them all and take their oil" way more times than I should have.
