it's kinda frustrating but honestly with how quickly we drive the mick west boys out of this thread it's sort of refreshing to have a thread where they feel comfortable enough to post. i just wish they'd stop doing those d&d argument tactics where they only respond to posts partially and retreat into defensive sarcasm

Yeah. Well, to be fair one of the errors the debate style is expecting people to change opinions and/or have the right question to ask to clarify their problem or whatever on the spot. People need time to absorb arguments and think them through.

If they want to drop it and chill a bit that's v. cool.

Congratulations and best of luck! Protip, you'll always know when the STEMlord is on his/her last legs when they invoke the anthropic principle.

Sagan struggles a bit to accommodate alternative frameworks in Demon Haunted World, hindered as people often are by an idea of religion that is mostly based on the most reactionary elements of Christianity. But he honestly tries, and hits on metaphor as the solution, which is a highly productive direction that is used, for example, in historiography as the basis of comparison to other fields (because all human understanding is symbolic, and all symbols are metaphors, there is a connection between even history and science in that both can be considered as genres of "story" which convey a chronologically arranged narrative using certain specific structure and rules about truth claims).
