I also thought this at first but I think the vertical brooms are intended to be part of the bus, like poles that riders can hang on to. Putting more bristles at the top was probably not the best artistic decision to convey this idea though!

See, Mary Worth would've been a million times more satisfying if Estelle had sang any other song as a sign that she wasn't playing into Wilbur's stupid little game and she wasn't even bothering to think about him.

Calaveron posted:See, Mary Worth would've been a million times more satisfying if Estelle had sang any other song as a sign that she wasn't playing into Wilbur's stupid little game and she wasn't even bothering to think about him. If this was happening in real life, three out of the four people in this scene would be in the wrong. Wilbur obviously, Estelle for playing into it, and even Mary for not trying to talk sense into Wilbur. And the recipient of all this awkwardness is Estelle's poor date, who by this point probably just wants to crawl into a hole and die. Really, the moment Estelle saw Wilbur she should have quietly gotten herself and her date out of there and suggested that they continue the evening at another venue. But in a comic strip, that'd be boring as hell. Let 'em attack each other through the medium of off-key pop lyrics, I say. Hell, I'm hoping Estelle's date gets up onstage himself and sings that Panic at the Disco song: "haven't you people ever heard of closing the goddamn door".

Estelle is going to win the battle of wits with Wilbur (obviously; he couldn’t match word with a kindergartner) and lose the war when her date doesn’t want to see her again.
