did trump actually come up with it? it would make sense, as its basically "a bunch of private companies will totally show up and want to pay for this" so it checks out

In English media at least, there is another war scare whipping up around Ukraine.

Not So Fast
Dec 27, 2007

quote:

UKRAINE. 1 Nov: Russian buildup on Ukraine border shrieks controlled US media. 2 Nov: CIA Director Burns goes to Moscow; said to warn Moscow against military operations. 3 Nov: Dmytro Yarosh appointed adviser to the commander-in-chief of the Ukraine armed forces, Defence Minister resigns. 4 Nov: US official visits Kiev. 7 Nov: Kiev says no indication of Russian buildup on border.

What just happened? Moscow got its message across and Washington turned its puppet off? (If so, nobody told Blinken.) Hard to imagine anyone in Kiev thinks “a good little war” would improve the wretched situation. But Yarosh might. This time I think Moscow will use force – if they didn’t get the hint in the spring, there’s no point in more hints: time for facts. (Ossetia 2008; but faster.)

Is there a ranking of levels of concerned? Apparently "very, very concerned" is the most concerned in a really, really long time which implies that there is a level of concerned above very, very concerned. I can only assume it's "very, very, very concerned".

That episode owns, she says so much insane poo poo with a straight face.

I got called a DPRK stan on these forums for saying that I don't think the US should be sanctioning DPRK to death. Also told that the DPRK guards were to keep people in the country. Instead of being a level of protection against the countries that consistently do war games on it's border.

pretty much any "military exercise" that takes place on the border of a hostile country involves moving equipment and personnel around in the same way that would happen for an actual attack. It's like throwing a punch at someone's face and stopping an inch short

Idk how anybody with a memory longer than a goldfish can think american foreign policy at its most benign isn't just clumsily blundering around immiserating and killing lots of people for little to no gain. Yeah wow these sanctions have done so much to bring freedom to the north korean people! Its literally the worst country on earth where people push trains uphill both ways to eat their once-weekly ration of rat-fed rats that they have no vocabulary to express their disgust for, but think how much worse it would be if not for our completely correct and moral foreign policy

I remember the excuse for why that first generation of heart seeking missiles didn't work was because they were designed to shoot Soviet planes down over Germany, not over hot humid jungle

They also said they didn't expect salt water to infiltrate the seeker heads or rocket bodies which is bizzare given as this was always a naval missile and you'd think even the slightest testing would have discovered that.

But then again, the Pentagon let's the contractors run their own tests and often even set their own parameters so it's no great surprise they missed it.

I didn't learn about the Korean war, and the Vietnam war was barely covered outside of all the montages of planes dropping bombs with fortunate son playing at school.

Learning about the genocide that the US did in those wars really opened my eyes. Every nation has the right to defend itself from the US.
