China at least recognizes the deleterious effect of having people and entities around that have so much money that they are in a position to challenge the legitimacy of the state. Blackrock's asset under management is 10 trillion, that's more than the US national budget in a year. Right now there is no confrontation because the right people are getting bought off, but what they go to impose a sanction on them one day, and Blackrock just says no? Jack Ma mouthed off about some bureaucrat on Weibo and they pushed his poo poo completely in over that. Elon Musk on the other hand....
