The Harley Quinn cartoon does an amazing job at giving the women from Bat-books some actual character and agency including Nora. It a way, way better show than it has any right to be.

It a way, way better show than it has any right to be. Oh right, forgot about that. That show really rocks and I love what they did with Harley. A lot of properties (and even the comics themselves at times) have tried to turn her into a hero due to her new found popularity thanks to the DC movies but that just creates another problematic kettle of fish in that it paints her as this innocent abuse victim that was turned into a monster by the Joker and thus strips all her agency. The cartoon makes it clear that while the Joker is still an abusive piece of poo poo and she was right to leave him, she wants to become a supervillain on her own. One great ep illustrating this is the one where they go inside Harley's mind and she sees her memories of her "origin story" of the Joker pushing her into the vat at Ace Chemicals but notices they seem glitched. After diving further, she discovers that the Joker didn't push her, she jumped in because he asked her to, and the glitch was her mind repressing those memories out of embarrassment and to absolve her responsibility. So Harley accepts the true version of events but changes her "origin story" to not be when she jumped in the vat but when she finally kicked the Joker to the curb and struck out on her own. It rules. She went from being Harle Quinn (competent sidekick who actually beat Batman once) to Harle Quinn (Gang Boss who actually beat Batman once). A fitting origin for HER story and rise to glory.

There's also a nice bit of characterization in the storyline with the queen of fables about Harley still having standards even while pursuing villain status. Sure, she'll maim and/or kill a guy when he has it coming, but she's not gonna get into indiscriminate mass murder just for giggles. It's really a weird perfect storm of a show that works so much better than it has any right to. Perestroika has a new favorite as of 19:18 on Nov 16, 2021 |

I really disliked the design of the "clubbing Harley" costume change that came out of the Arkham games and the show both made it work and really important. I didn't like the relationship between Harley and Poison Ivy because it always felt like some guys fetishizing lesbians than an actual relationship and the show made that work and be really touching. I never liked the attempts to make Harley strike out on her own because she was always written as Joker but sexy and the show actually gave her a character. It's amazing how good it was for something that came out of a comic book library subscription service.

It helps when properties remember that Harley is a talented Psychiatric doctor. The Joker may have been too much for her, but that's because of how manipulative he is, not a mark on her skills.

In addition to showing how manipulative he is, shows how even as a Psychiatric doctor, she had her own mental health issues going on which contributed to her being easy prey for Joker. Which isn't something that is explored very much except in the cartoon. It's something I wish was explored more in media in general how mental health can effect anyone and isn't just stereotypes.

I have nothing major to add other than to reiterate that the Harley Quinn show is as good as everyone is saying. They even make you love a character named Kite Man by the end.

Agreed. I never would have thought to watch it if it wasn't for this forum, and it was great. Also, them showing the Joker as a sad and annoying rear end in a top hat is one of the best depictions of Joker that I have seen. jjack229 has a new favorite as of 15:30 on Nov 18, 2021 |

Not since the 2010 Norwegian movie Trollhunter came out have so many people said "Wow, I can't believe how good this was" with such shocked surprise as they have about the Harley Quinn show.

The Miley Cyrus episode of Black Mirror aged horrifingly. I remember someone on this forum saying that you couldn't controll an artist like that and then it turns out that the reality is even worse.

I found the Harley Quinn cartoon a bit hit or miss, but the hits are really hits. I love when we meet her parents and they're basically Al and Peg, and somehow explain so much.

The only thing I wasn’t too crazy about was having Bane be a parody of his Dark Knight Rises incarnation in TYOOL 2020 complete with goofy accent but even that had its moments (like him setting up his own desert pit prison that legitimately rehabilitates prisoners).

I'll counter by saying I found Bane to be the funniest character in the whole show. My only real complaint is the first few episodes take some time to find their pace for the humor. The first 2-3 episodes are pretty aggressive and don't take their foot off the gas, but once it settles in it's an extremely solid show. Media that exceeded expectations: We get it goons like Harley Quinn

Look, with two dicks you're draining the bladder twice as fast, splitting the pressure so it doesn't so much blast as dribble, and you can't really wave two dicks in more directions at once than you can wave one--in fact, they just get in the way of each other! Yes I've done the reserach. No I won't be answering questions.

It was 100% fake yeah. The lie kept growing bigger and bigger about how much sex he was getting and how big his dicks were and etc. Someone did some digging and it turns out he didn't even hide the fact that he was an exhibitionist who got off to specifically the idea of 'exposing' unsuspecting people to features of him and 'convincing' them it's great. I wish I could forget it, but in addition to the fake two-dick thing, he also posted about exposing people to his 'rosebud' - severely prolapsed anus., and even making men gay because it was 'so attractive' or some poo poo like that.

Just re-watched the first three seasons of Arrested Development and they are still super good. Dense with jokes with a lot of star power. The one ongoing joke that really hasn't aged well at all is the lawyer character Barry. There's a constant ongoing joke that he's gay and picking up trans women on the street and it just doesn't work in 2021.

I haven't watched it in years and I definitely didn't remember that, not surprising though considering some of the other bits. Honestly the whole series is basically media that didn't age well, coming from someone who adored the first three seasons at the time (and even rather liked the fourth). The Mr. F storyline in particular felt worse basically every time I watched it after the initial go-round.

Cosby's first(?) prominent accuser went on the Today show in 2005, and there were lots of other ones by the time that episode came out. There's a reason [30 Rock writer] Hannibal Burress did a whole bit about how weird it was that no one was talking about it and people should Google it.
