You want to get the Kaiser? Here's how you get him. He invades Alsace-Lorraine? You build some trains. He launches mustard gas? You build some trains! That's the Pullman way, and that's how you get the Kaiser!

I like combat being abstracted into fronts with no individual units to pay attention to, but I hope they flesh out the orders you can give to more than just attack or defend.

Icons that change dynamically according to date, tag, and ideology. For example, Prussia begins with little kriegspiel chits.

Not sure yet what mechanical role a political parties layer will serve that Interest Groups don't cover. But even if it just adds some flavor that's fine cause again, narrative engine.

From what has been said so far, the core thing is that it allows for coalitions between interest groups, allowing groups that might not individually have enough power to do much of anything to still take control of the state and push through their agendas.

The biggest and most ahistorical issue with Vicky II was than landing of doomstacks randomly to occupy provinces in the middle of nowhere. It prevented a WW1 situation.

This is a good solution

Yeah I'm pretty sure the interest groups were already going to coalition to form the political backbone, that was part of the whole interest group dev diary. Political parties are solely cosmetic, but people got weirdly upset with the interest group diary about them not being in.

Somebody on the sub-Reddit made this short video on the combat system which I quite like:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOQxbz2qJYs

It does a good job of articulating what I was saying earlier about the sense of narrative in a combat system. TLDR His suggestion is to either find a workable split-fronts implementation, or have a dynamic system where generals are distributed and tend to plan their next action close to where their previous one ended, along with a very basic wargoals mechanic. That way you have some independent war areas, each with a causal progression, while preserving the no-micro concept that the team is going for. He uses the phrase "object permanence," which I think is a great way of putting it. I'm kinda just hoping Wiz sees it cause I think it's worth considering.

If someone made a game where you played a political boss in gilded age America. And had to wrangle regional bosses, patronage, corruption, business leaders, unions, and regional issues to try and take the biggest slice of power. I'd probably never play another game.

It saddens me a little bit that every single preview screenshot needs that disclaimer. It's not even just gamers, every time you show someone a UI mock-up you have to yell at them to focus on the important part because they'll immediately start nitpicking the color

How does the game handle ideologies like liberalism, socialism, fascism, etc - does that all just go through the interest groups system as well?

That's because if they don't nitpick things they will absolutely be locked in for release and will be stuck with aggravating oversights and design decisions for hundreds or thousands of hours unless management is willing to pay for a patch. (Management is not willing to pay for a patch)
