My application to the Office of Special Counsel involved 2 interviews with different directors and that was a 7/9 specialist position. Asked about upward mobility and it turns out that agency only has 125 people total for the type of mission they have and nobody leaves there. That explains why they're at the top of the best places to work in the feds for small agencies list.(No. 2)

Last I heard they were checking references.

ok buddy you're cool, we like you, let's see how you do. here's a large vague project we need to work on, take a week to develop a gameplan for how we're going to tackle that project. next week you have one hour to present your plan to us. If selected, you're gonna actually do what you present so make it good.

I really want to know what an egg world challenge project involves. Examples?

Unfortunately, I'm guessing that it's a lot closer to big pharma level stuff, but I still hold out hope that people's future is dangling over the edge of a Paas contest organization party.

Mine was develop a comprehensive review program to take into the hundreds of egg factories across the country, and determine whether the local personnel were applying regulations in a consistent manner across large geographic areas under different managers. Not especially difficult, but very time consuming.

Man the government is weird and inconsistent. My agency moved to not even requiring panels for 13/14 and it's just a single interview with the supervisor.

As far as I'm aware, we just have single panel interviews, but idk. I've never been on a hiring panel.

We also got an email about the current "future of work" details, and I'll be back the week of January 24. It's from the departmental level, though, and the last I've heard from my agency is it'll still be just one day a week until they make remote work decisions.

I dunno, but I ran into an egg grader position with some interesting requirements a few months ago. Maybe they're related.

quote:

Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process...
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing, lifting heavy objects over 50 pounds, crouching or crawling in restricted areas, defending oneself and/or others against physical attack.

I was tempted to apply just to see what the hell was going on, but I think the mystery adds a certain spice to my life.

When I learned how to be an OJI we had to figure out how to build a contraption to use to drop an egg from ceiling height from office supplies. Without having it crack, though.

Let me know how it goes! I've decided to use some of my FEMA earnings after my deployment ends to finally determine if I'm actually autistic or not, and it'd be kinda cool to have that do something positive for me. Aside from the whole peace of mind either way thing.

You are SSA right? I heard the same thing today. I think more people are taking the early out in FO's then expected. The whole agency is a disaster. I dread the next 3 years but I'm not ready to leave yet.

My character would make no sense in this story if I actually got a GS-11 position. "Why did they introduce that whining guy and then not develop his character and then give him what he wanted the whole time?"

The best part is that I was hired for a GS-11 INTERMITTENT position in February. You can imagine how many hours I have worked that job so far. I technically have two federal jobs right now and am collecting unemployment as I work 0 hours

Former SSA, but interesting that it's the same timeline. Our agency head assured us that "those other" agencies are already rushing back to the office but that OMB wouldn't be calling the shots for us.

Maybe another COVID variant will emerge and buy us more time?

Call your current HR and ask them to reach out?

So many HRs are impressively incompetent, (doesn't help a lot of offices are also overworked/short staffed) when I took my current job they "lost" all of my T/A records, performance evals etc. One of my coworkers who got hired with me they put in an IT ticket for removal, so they completed deleted her out of everything, took several weeks before she could even log in to a PC.

Did work out in my favor as there was some pay dispute/issue the union won in arbitration so anyone who had x happen got paid, they couldn't audit my records so I got it by default.

As I understand it the only way to legitimately turn down FEMA deployments is to have a federal position with a different agency. Well, that is to say, if you work for the private sector (or I guess non-federal government) that is not a legitimate excuse for turning down a deployment.

It would be great if both of our understandings of this issue are totally wrong, though.

I'm honestly not sure. The thing about FEMA that I've noticed is that no two answers are the same, because nobody wants to be on the hook if it somehow does get resolved in a way contrary to what they say. I think that's the phenomena that's keeping me from getting access to the program that I need to do the job I've been doing for the past three weeks, and I'm not fond of it. Or them trying to make us go back into the office in such a way that we're all just split because we don't actually have the physical space to do that, thus making the work we do even more difficult to do. Honestly, the more I write about it, the more I realize that, while the pay is nice, this is pretty precarious!

Meanwhile, the vaccination goal is at 90% on Deadline Day, and according to this article there could be up to 175,000 federal employees who are too stupid committed to the joke uhh their death cult ... owning the libs??? to actually go through with it (another ~175,000 are seeking active exemptions, and from how well those have been going from the usual charlatan crowd we can expect about 170,000 of those to not be granted)

I wish I could believe this will mean I have my pick of 345,000 jobs soon but something tells me I will not qualify to apply for 99% of them

I do look forward to the agency-by-agency breakdown figures coming out Wednesday
