It also has nothing to do with space, aliens, or the future, and the final scene is a manic Brooks turning to the camera and shouting “LINEAR. TIME.” This would be more enjoyable and thought provoking than anything produced since 2005

I just finished watching Dagger of the Mind. Good episode, absolutely chilling premise, only slightly let down by how the episode treats the female co star. It's a bit jarring how on the ship, Kirk is the one who trusts Adams in the face of McCoy's concerns and Spock's logical mistrust, but as soon as he's paired with her and they get to the surface he's the doubtful one and she implicitly trusts the obviously shady guy. And I don't know what's going on with her costume, but that and the sexual tension with Kirk from the moment you realize that - gasp - McCoy's sent a woman*? Not a fan. To be fair, she comes through and pulls her weight in the end, and I appreciate that she doesn't take advantage of it when Kirk is mind controlled into throwing himself at her. *I know they establish the backstory of the encounter at the Christmas party shortly after, but the musical cues kick in the moment you see her. The direction is saying "oh boy, our red blooded Real Man and a girl, there's only one way this is going to end".

Almost done with the S2 of Enterprise. I know the show picks up speed in S3 and S4, but still. So far I have counted 11 episodes where the plot is "Archer and/or some else is taken hostage and needs rescue", there is three of them in a row in S2 5 episodes that are basically "something happens to shuttle and some people are marooned", there are three of these within 5 episodes in S2 7 episodes of "Enterprise is taken over by someone". Not exactly original stuff, half of the episodes are one of these formulas, and that's even not counting the episodes that are remakes of earlier Star Trek series episodes, or compressed versions of classic films like the episode Marauders is for the Seven Samurais. The one episode left for me is the season cliffhanger which I believe kicks in the "better part of the series". At least it cannot get any worse from here, right? So far the best episode was the one where the three Vulcans were stranded on Earth in 1960's, and the Progenitor had an interesting story but it was terribly hamfisted and preachy as an episode. I always thought the Xindi arc wasn't great, but yeah, things start slowly picking up from here. Especially once you hit the episode with cowboys vs. aliens it really starts to kick off. Coincidentally, this is when Manny Coto was brought on board the production team.

Season 2 is the worst season of Enterprise. Season 3 was pretty well received at the time, but has aged quite a bit. Though there’s a surprising amount of nuance in there for a show in the early 2000s tackling certain…issues.

Love the episode where Tpol goes through premature pon farr because of a pathogen and after it's over Flox refuses to tell her if he slept with her His reason being that denobulan males are shy about that kind of thing

Denobula is what xenosociologists refer to as a "quasi-70's culture" of which there are numerous subcultures. While Phlox attached himself to a foreign military outfit to gently caress people in other lands, his brother--as a differing example--drives a painted panel shuttle across the quadrant following a jam band.

the tpol pon farr thing was actually the B story of the episode. Archer had been kidnapped by a bounty hunter and they spent the entire thing getting him back. When he finally gets back hes like "wheres tpol" and everyone else is like dont ask. The two stories had no connection whatsoever

In comes a rusty old shuttle, burgundy with a mural of Klingon wizards fighting a Crystalline Entity with dragon heads. Moments pass as the sound of psychedelic rock music and heavy coughing emanate from within. The side door slides open, and out rolls a cloud of pot smoke and a Denobulan with a lovely beard, obviously tripping hard on shrooms. "Brother!" exclaims the Denobulan, arms wide. Phlox sighs and grimaces. "Hello, brother." IT'S BEEN A LONG ROAD
