Dennis Palatov of dpcars.net and now Palatov motorsport was one of the first to lay hands on those back when. I used to follow his dpcars blog pretty close back in the day, starting when he had one of the only Elises in the US. Over the years, I'd stopped paying attention, but it seems he's since gone all in, to the point of fielding cars at the PPIHC. (Careful with those links, they're a GREAT way to burn a day or more- the "past" section is a HUGE time suck). Kimini was another good build blog to follow in the web 1.0 days.

I believe this is the first mention of the Hartley V8 in his blog posts.

Why are there three burners on that stove? I assume it's Italian but still how much pasta do you need to cook.

This seems to be one of those electric Fiat 500s underneath. I would drive this unironically and have the greatest time doing so.

https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/barbie-extra-car-debut-mattel-walmart-la-auto-show/

quote:

Auto shows might just be the best way to get a sense of what you might want to park in your driveway next, but they're also excellent family outings, in part because there are always things to catch a child's eye and capture their imagination. At this week's LA Auto Show, there's a good chance one of those things will be the Barbie Extra Car, a full-size two-seat convertible designed to promote Mattel's range of fashion dolls and accessories.

While the Extra Car's over-the-top exterior won't give you many hints as to this roadster's underlying chassis, the dashboard and seats in the cabin just might. This is a Fiat 500e -- Barbie's keeping it eco-friendly, fam. That means the underlying all-electric powertrain is good for 111 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque, and the standard car is good for 100 miles of range.

The more important details for kids will be this car's sparkle-laden silver paint, its wing-shaped doors, star-shaped headlamps, custom rainbow wheels and the obligatory all-over pink interior (complete with furry headrests).

According to a Mattel spokesperson, the company's design team worked directly from the CAD files for the toy car, scaling it up to fit a full-size vehicle. The shape was then cut out of foam by a five-axis router, then the forms were hand-tooled before making molds for the sculpted foam body. Those wheels (22-inch rear, 20-inch front) were 3D printed before being hand painted.

The entire car took two and a half months to create.

A standard gas burner for external use in Italy for that small size has three units with a weaker middle one and two full power at the sides. The scale makes it look immense but it’s relatively tiny

My mother was Italian.

You need to cook enough for everyone to have seconds, and thirds, and then some for everyone to take home.

So the Hartley guys are cool as gently caress. Father Brian started off in motorsports mainly Formula Atlantic, Brendon has raced F1 with Toro Rosso, won WEC twice, 2nd at Le Mans twice and 1st at Le Mans twice with Toyota and in the wild Porsche 919 Hybrid. Nelson has his own motorsport experience but left school at 15 to go into the business and turns out is a gun engineer.

Their bread and butter is building race engines for customers, mostly Toyota and Nissan V8's. Mostly for Superstocks, which are a big dirt track series here, with contact and 4 litre carbed V8's. Hartley mostly takes Nissan VK56's from US Titan's or Y62 Patrols, slaps their own head and intakes to take a carb (to meet the class rules) and other special sauce and sends them to 10,000 rpm. They also build them in other forms for Jetsprint boats, often in twin turbo form, or NA with ITB's, whatever you need.

The 'busa based V8:

Twin turbo meth VK56, 1200+ HP

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9ApKle9qhc

They built the ITB VK56 the Skid Factory are putting in a Hakosuka Skyline.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0cqp1iAi-w4

And the big daddy, their the Toyota based V12. Block and crank are pretty much the only stock parts and the heads don't have much Toyota left in them either. Currently in a D1NZ S14 in twin turbo form it's pushing 1000hp from about 7000 to 10,000rpm and Nelson isn't sure how high it will actually rev to.

http://www.speedhunters.com/2018/04/expressive-engineering-s14-silvia-v12/

I could leave a video of Superstock racing but as we all know the best part about local dirt track racing is the crashes, and Superstock delivers:
