It's a nice place, yeah, and it draws eccentrics that can afford it. It's more expensive than Colorado Springs and Woodland Park. I like Manitou, but Woodland Park is more my speed if I ever moved back up there. It was -14°C in the valley when I woke up this morning.

I'm cheap so I just layer up. The wind is the real rear end kicker down here and I'm usually stacked in 3 light jackets when I walk Frank at 6am. But by noon it's nice enough to wear shorts and a t-shirt.

The San Luis valley builds a bubble of air between the San Juans and the Sangre de Cristos. It gets cold as poo poo because all the warm jetstream air glides ride over the bubble of cold below as it comes over the mountains. Same thing happens with Antero reservoir, so low in its' valley that a cold bubble hangs over it. Once the sun warms the ground, temps rise pretty quickly, but it doesn't get above freezing until 10am or so right now, coldest point is usually 3-6am.

American History has been ripe with political parties going completely off the deep end, then losing zillions of elections. My general worry is: what if Americans decide that the party that has gone completely off the deep end is the Democrats? I just don't know how to engage with people that looked at 2020 and decided BLEACH ME or can just shrug and prefer that to the alternative. Though again, the majority of Republicans are vaccinated, so maybe they just mentally compartmentalize better than anyone else.
