I kinda think people just equate grinding to random encounters existing.

Last Celebration posted:There’s a handful of pins with “???” in their evolution requirements, those evolve when a specific person equips them when they hit max level. The game tells you this when you unlock the social link-type feature that shows evolution methods…like 80% trough the campaign. You can look these up yourself but it’s not super advised if you’re trying to go spoiler-free. Can I max level the pin and just give it to that character in backwards order?

RareAcumen posted:Can I max level the pin and just give it to that character in backwards order? Nope. Once the pin reaches max level and it's on the wrong character, it's locked to that pin stage unfortunately. You'll have to start over with a new pin.

Yeah, just stockpile any of those pins to experiment with or if there’s only one (only a few aren’t drops) keep it until you get your sixth party member.

Ah shame. Well next question, do everyone's favorite foods get saved in any way on a menu or something? I like that people's faces change in reaction to what you give them. It reminds me of FE:Fates battle screens. But I absolutely won't remember who likes what food from where in 4 hours.

Not that I know of but people's likes are consistent which helps.

There are different hidden tiers of "happy face" and only the top one gives you a chance to get a drop rate boost, but the chance is so small and the effect so minor that you don't actually need to worry about this pretty much ever.

It's pretty obvious which face is the happiest though.

RareAcumen posted:Ah shame. Luckily in addition to the face stuff others mentioned the game has an option just for your situation (I think when you get enough party members for it to be tedious to select everyone’s favorites) where you just press a button and automatically go with whatever you ordered the last time.

just finished voice of cards. the final boss did a thing i'm always a fan of in rpgs (though kinda hate in actual tabletop games lol) and has some npcs help you out in the big battle. it also took advantage of the card aesthetic in a really fun way. combat improves as you get more options, but things are always pretty easy; i only ever felt slightly pushed during the final battle, and so unleashed the secret technique of using consumable items. still think the encounter rate is too high, but being able to jump to any previously seen tile on a map mitigates that somewhat. the art and music are lovely, i can't wait to try and find a rip of the ost. the writing is charming and i didn't get tired of the GM's voice like i worried i might (he falls asleep and starts snoring if you idle outside of combat!) overall a solid game that doesn't reach any higher than it needs to, filled with little moments that made me go "oh that rules." edit: jk i'm not done, there's a post-game bonus boss with large numbers Looper fucked around with this message at 07:36 on Nov 19, 2021 |

drat, one screenshot and I want to replay Shadows of Valentina. Granted, I got so into that one that I bought more class DLC just for replayability and endless grinding. Faye and Silque were such good mages.

Arise’s story is pretty poorly paced from the jump. Every single region you go from being brand new to suddenly revolution including the one you start with. There are definitely things about Arise that feel much more modern like CP and changes with missable things (there aren’t any). But the story really just goes from middling to bad imo.

Frankly i thought that was the most interesting part of the game because it actually had ideas. The ideas are bugfuck but way more interesting than the first half Arise is decent but berseria is a way better game. Even arise having better combat is squandered by the terrible boss balance

one of the best games in the tales series has a final boss that is a dragon made out of racism, i dont come to these games for tightly plotted third acts. give me the insane metaphysical bullshit. arise should have committed to that more.

Acerbatus posted:As someone who probably won't play it (still haven't finished Berseria, I should get back to that) how so? Imo the biggest problem is one of massive dissonance. Skits have very wide timing of availability and veer dramatically between 'I hate you with everything I have you filthy renan' to 'oh so you like steak huh??' in the space of about 5 seconds and it kind of makes your head spin. I also had trouble with the world plot feeling super underbaked - the idea that the world has been The Way It Is for 300 years seems bogglingly unsustainable, if nothing else because the dahnans should have Extremely Died Out to these comically genocidal assholes, and doesn't seem to support some of the later revelations at all. People just drop information on you without any real establishment and it's usually about stuff you can't see, and while that's probably kind of the point (I stopped after the 5th land) it feels full of holes and unsatisfying. Also the central romance feels really skeevy to me because at about the halfway point of the game I realized Alphen's romance scenes pretty much all involved grabbing a hold of someone's arm when they were clearly uncomfortable with the idea, over and over
