Does anyone play with rewind disabled? I feel kinda bad for using it sometimes because it’s kind of cheaty, but on the other hand I don’t really have patience to redo an entire race because my car flipped over a rock.

I like the credit boost from making it more difficult and I like the challenge too, but when they rig the system so you have to win every time to get the prizes they kinda force my hand, it's either repeat an event a dozen times until I get the right result or respect my own time and use the 'cheats' they give me.

Most of those jumps sucked the 1st time as well, but I don't think I was ever in a performance class to overshoot a checkpoint. it's definitely also the case with the gauntlet, at the very least, and if anything i'd expect that, the colossus, the goliath and the marathon to be even more a case of 'other tracks stitched together' since those three disciplines all use actual pre-existing roads vs. cross country which does not. that's not a diss on any of them or anything, mind you. i even like cross country mostly, there are a few tracks that suck but i find it mostly fun and a good excuse to bust out a ridiculous truck or the ford coupe forza edition. really the only thing i don't like is playground, which has always sucked since its inception.

I don't think 5 actually gives you a credit boost for playing without rewind, unless I'm misremembering. 4 definitely did though, and I got used to it, so I keep it off.

I'm in love with the Racing Escort Mk 1 1967. Such a fun little car to drive and looks so good. It's not the best performer of all time but I just really like how it drives. I did encounter a pretty strange thing though, when I used it (with offroad tires) on a road race it absolutely destroyed the competition. In a normal dirt course I had to turn the difficulty down to pro or else I had no chance. I'm assuming it's just because the drivatars had to be filled out with similarly rated offroad cars and for some reason it does better on asphalt? Not sure though. One annoying thing about this game is how much the difficulty varies between car choices in races. Choose the wrong car and certain difficulties levels will be basically impossible. The right car will make you need to turn the difficulty up. I guess it makes sense but I do wish it was a little more reliable in that way. There's one where the get back to the road timer is a full minute and you can totally fit just under that if you go in a straight line start to finish, completely avoiding the setpieces your character starts describing in detail

Install Forza Horizon 4 and launch it once to see if you get the box art car for free in Forza Horizon 5 (a Batmobile, essentially.) To be sure, many cars are of course 'good out of the box' by virtue of being super-cars in real life of what have you. And it is great to have those cars, and just tune them within their class, if at all. But I love that you can *also* take a total shitbox and turn it into a ridiculous, gimmicky beast. I fondly remember in FH4 nabbing someone's tune to turn a Peel P50 - a car that, out of the box, can maybe hit 30mph if you get a good downhill run - into something that can do 200mph on a straight.

FH5 is great but I still find myself preferring to go back to 4. I think partly that's because my son loves the lego cars and says he 'hates forza horizon 5' because it doesn't have any lego in it, but also I just prefer the map. FH5 is fun but has so many large empty spaces in the middle of the map - hopefully this is something they'll work on during the lifetime of the game. I think part of this is also that I don't live in Mexico so just don't relate to 5 in the same way as 4.

I do prefer this map over FH4 but what I already miss are seasons. Yes they are techically still there but I really have not noticed any changes compared to last week except perhaps sometimes there is a storm? Hopefully the first expansion adds snowy areas.
