Yeah they usually drive on pavements and through pedestrianised areas, chasing them down would be a terrible idea.

Bug Squash posted:Had a bit of a weird one yesterday. A couple of guys on electric scooters and balaclavas tried to mug me as I got out of my car near Riddrie as I was visiting Glasgow. They sped off once they realised I had a good grip on my bag and had at least half a foot over them, so they yelled at me like I was the rear end in a top hat in that situation. I don't think I've ever felt less threatened in my life. I believe this behaviour is called a "Polmadian shot".

I have never seen your press savage the Tories as badly as this and Boris is still going to clobber Starmer worse than he did Corbyn.

People's fundamental interests haven't changed: the older homeowners and landlords who make up the 40% bloc of the Tory vote remain rock solid and will support them next election regardless.

I don't think they even want rid of boris to be honest, any more than wrestling wants rid of the heel. Booing him is popular at the moment, that's about it.

The Mail did, but - entirely unconnected I'm sure - that editor, Geordie Greg, has been fired and a new, more Dacre-like, tory-friendly editor installed. Remains to be seen if the attacks on the tories continue or whether it reverts to Boris-worship The Express has had some pleading front pages 'please PM, please apologize then it'll all go away and we can continue to worship thee'

I pretty much view the current government as a coalition between the media and the tory party, this is best understood as a leadership challenge from within. There certainly won't be an election.

A small amount of incumbency fatigue (which will be reported by the Guardian as "I'd like to see Boris/nu-Boris wriggle his way out of betraying the red wall") will be more than offset by the utter enthusiasm-sapping of Mr Stamper

And now for something completely different: Does anyone know what these are? They're a pair and one has a L and the other a R on it. They're mirror images. We think they might be something to do with bicycles but we're not sure.

Looks like a specialist bracket of some description, presumably for attaching an object to something else. I would assume the wing nuts go in perhaps slots in another part and would allow you to adjust the position of the thing being bracketed, or the position of the brackets relative to the thing being enclosed in them. Other option is they are a gripper screw like you would find on a christmas tree base, presumably intended to go around a piece of large box section or square drainpipe. The extra bits stuck on the end suggest it is likely part of a larger set of metalwork whatever it is. OwlFancier fucked around with this message at 21:49 on Nov 21, 2021 |

Maybe I meant Partickan shot? therattle posted:Are even papers like the Mail and Express turning on them? At the moment corruption + channel crossings = bad news coverage. If house prices went up 1% tomorrow all would be forgiven. I do a low altitude flyby of the redtops every time I'm in the co-op and their headlines tend to be middle-england worldview issues driven whereas the broadsheets and the sun will spike stuff based on party allegiances. The speed with which the Mail/Express turn is amazing. It's like the Times/Telegraph/Graun all back a horse in the race, while the Mail knows it's not invited so it backs the veterinarian with a gun.

Waitrose sells 'the quality', Home Bargains sells the red tops, Smiths sells both + all those specialist magazines (no, not those ones*, stuff like Railway Enthusiast, Runners Delight, Loadsamoney Monthly, Eat Yourself Thin, and other such made up names as I can think of). *cum to think of it, I don't think there's anywhere in town to get THOSE sort of specialist magazines.

Wonder if there is a particularly militant cell in boro then, everywhere seems to get it. I think they all get the papers from menzies so I dunno why it would be different unless that's also just a regional thing. Always strikes me as funny because they obviously are always doing something entirely different to the other papers.

I've seen solar panel brackets that look a lot like that I'm guessing there's a slotted square tube that the wingnuts go into as OF suggests and the whole thing pivots to allow an adjustable angle of support

Strange metal objects: So I sent to my mad keen cyclist nephew and he doesn't know at all what they are so looks like the bike / pannier thing is out of the question. On the remote off chance NN99 was being serious I googled that Thanks for the other suggestions which seem to suggest whatever they are there is more that is long gone, so I think it will be off to the scrap metal container!
