My take on them has always been that they're mutually respectful colleagues but they're also spy guys to the core and if it came down to it either one would screw over the other.

Well they did have that one time where Bond was the best man at Leiter's wedding and then the entire plot of the movie is about getting revenge for the death of Leiter's wife.

It's pretty believable in license to kill. They're interactions begin with bond being the best man and them having wacky hijinks together. And then Felix disagrees with something that ate him and exits the plot until the end.

Felix is pretty drat perfunctory in most of these moves. I really only liked David Hedison and Cec Linder in the role. Wright is fine in Casino Royale but gently caress does he do nothing in the other two films to feature him.

Licence To Kill has three things going for it: 1. The old dude dancing next to the pool at the wedding 2. Sanchez blowing up Krest’s head 3. That awful fish sculpture that was the first thing Bond saw when he woke up. I love that movie but fully recognize it’s a terrible movie.

License to Kill has more than that going for it, the ending truck chase whips rear end and Robert Davi is like a top 5 Bond villain

This occured to me when people said Idris is too old etc. Let's have a Bond roulette period for the next 15 years. One or two movies per Bond, start with Idris, maybe a Tom Hardy, whoever, just make some great movies. Plus, in general especially with Marvel movies lately, sometimes they don't feel like they're bringing it all, making the best movie they can. More like it's getting the ball rolling for the next movie. At least I felt that way about Shang-Chi lately. So I say just make the best Bond movie you can, and get some cool casting like Idris, that's better than trying to do an episodic plot with Bond I think. Also, maybe this goes without saying, but I don't think we want another origin story or first mission. Kind of like how we wouldn't want another movie of Spider-Man getting his powers. Roll with a Bond who is experienced, and it could just bounce around his career with a slightly looser continuity. Heavy Metal fucked around with this message at 04:21 on Nov 19, 2021 |

I know Spectre isn’t very good at all, but man, is the car chase in Rome fun. Between none of the car’s gadgets working, to Bond rear ending that little Fiat, to his repartee with Moneypenny over the phone, it’s fun in a very Bond movie sort of way that the Craig movies by and large aren’t. I kinda hope whatever comes next introduces a little bit more of that fun stuff.

They should stick to the honoured tradition of British 2020’s production and pick an actor from Skins series 1. That leaves a shortlist of; Nicholas Hoult Joe Dempsie Mike Bailey Will Merrick Jack O’Connell Sean Teale Luke Pasqualino Dev Patel Ollie Barbieri 2 household names, 2 who’ve gone on to do very good character work, bolded the winner. Easy

TL posted:I kinda hope whatever comes next introduces a little bit more of that fun stuff. Big same. I've enjoyed 2.5 of the Craig movies, but I want the movies to be fun again. We don't need to have "Sar-jent Jay Dubya Pepa" The Second, spunky daughter of the original. Even if it's something like the tank sequence in Goldeneye, which is fairly goofy but also totally loving sweet.

Uncle Boogeyman posted:Hardy would've been great but is a little too old now. Ditto Elba. Hardy is uh *checks notes* 9 years younger than Craig so I don't think he's too old. I honestly would just love for a reimagining of just having the character be 007 for a couple of movies so that it could be a woman, young old w/e. This way while the perfect casting is made you can do some interesting thing with the character itself. Ana de Armas or Lashana Lynch as 007 would absolutely rule and I'd be so here for it! And all the while they can have a TV series where episodes are based around the stories Madeline tells Mathilde

Cast Matt Smith as the new Bond! Then, like all his movies, he ends up not actually showing up in the movie and we get the first Bond movie where Bond never appears

Henry Cavill was on the shortlist before Craig got it, and his performance as Napoleon Solo (a character also created by Ian Fleming) is as good a reel as any. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVzUjNlfq9E https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9sEvT3WN0o

I'm still kinda mystified by how popular Skyfall is. It's so revered I have to ask myself the Skinner meme "Am I out of touch?" Quantum of Solace is a total fuckin mess but I feel like it was more interesting than the shallow generic porridge that was Skyfall. (It had some good filmmaking, it wasn't unremarkable but story-wise? gently caress.) The Pussy Galore rape scene in 1964, people can put down to the time period, but I'm still BAFFLED that more wasn't made of the completely insane act 2 rape scene in 2012.

Skyfall is very well shot and paced, has a good villain, is fun, introduces Q and Moneypenny, has some notable plot developments, and Bond gets to play Home Alone. Not sure why it’s a mystery that it’s considered good or that people like to hate on it now? I think it’s easily Craig’s best film after Casino.

Honestly an interesting story is probably one of the least important elements of a James Bond movie, I would say only a handful of the 25 have one. Most people are going for cool scenes and moments of Bond being Bond. But I thought the story in Skyfall did it's job well enough, putting Dench's M in professional and actual peril was enough to make me care, as obviously nothing was going to happen to Bond. And the villain was fun to watch and had an actual sense of menace, even if that was probably mostly Bardem's doing. As far as the assault in the shower goes, a lot of people did make a big deal of it at the time, and it still comes up fairly often when people talk about the movie today. It's not really a big enough part to ruin the movie for most people who otherwise liked it, same as with the Pussy Galore scene in Goldfinger.
