I'm somewhat surprised that efficacy is remaining so drat high in clinical trials, even in the Delta environment. Wouldn't surprise me if the booster window will be studied and moved a few months sooner though.

This is some good news. Funny enough was just talking about the booster shoot with the kids.

In an absolute adorable moment my 9 year explained a booster shot to my five-year-old as a game update. She’s so drat smart.

That’s good. My daughter was relatively indifferent but I think she saw an opportunity to upsell to the good stuff. My son is still too young to get it, but he he is much worse with shots than my daughter, so I look forward to his emotional breakdown when ever he does get it.

What really gets me is this CDC study on two doses + placebo versus two doses + booster that I linked a few days ago:

https://twitter.com/EricTopol/status/1461786768131465219

The ~90% efficacy of the two doses keeps you out of the hospital, then the protection wanes. Then *on top of that*, the booster has a 95% efficacy *compared to* two doses. In a study of ~9400, 123 two-dosers caught covid and of the equivalent booster population, the grand total of covid cases was... 6.

And this is all happening in a Delta environment! This poo poo is feat-of-humankind level numbers. And there are still people going WAAAAH I DON'T WANT TO GET A BOOSTER AND BE SICK A DAY

Though I've heard low reaction potentially indicates lower effectiveness?

Nah. It just means your body doesn’t go as nuts as some other people do. The majority of people feel a sore arm. The rest of the side effects vary wildly.

Almost half of the population gets no systemic side effects, yet the vaccine is way more effective than fifty percent.

Don’t sweat it.

Yeah I was talking with a friend about what this would have looked like in early 90s.
Challenges:
-much slower vaccine development
-near zero WFH or remote learning options
-no online shopping or entertainment choices

Advantages:
-more trust in government would help ease response
-lack of misinformation ecosystem would help boost vaccine intake

I still dunno how it would have been handled. My guess is major restrictions on travel and possible national stay at home orders for weeks?

Dang between that and states lowering restrictions on the working age to like 14 or 15 it has a feel of late stage CSA/45 Germany when they were abandoning draft age/fitness requirements to scrape together units.

The POS who killed five people and wounded another 40 is facing five counts of first-degree intentional homicide. Unsurprisingly he's got a history of violence against women.

quote:

Mr. Brooks had been free on $1,000 bail in an earlier criminal case, in which he was accused of running over the mother of his child in the parking lot of a Milwaukee gas station with his maroon 2010 Ford Escape earlier this month. A spokesman for the district attorney’s office on Monday described the state’s bail recommendation in that earlier case as “inappropriately low” in light of the seriousness of the charges, and “not consistent” with office policy.
