Book III of dune just feels inherently more difficult to adapt. They avoided doing the emperor and feyd fot this reason I think (and also bc if they were truly operating under the notion that they may not have a guaranteed follow-up, those parts would be kinda vestigial in a void). The final scenes of the book feel especially resistant to on-screen adaptation. That said if its on par with part one I'll be more than satisfied My pick for emperor is benicio del toro in a wig.

I have complicated feelings about space benicio. On the one hand he's a great actor, but on the other hand I'm not sure he should be in space

Book III really starts to unravel in the last few scenes but I'll always go to bat for the last scene itself. Yes it's basically just switching to writing a play, yes it owns a lot

Currently re-reading Dune, one of Irulans entries says that the Emperor is 72 at the time of Leto's passing but looked no older than 35, presumably from spice addiction.

I feel that's probably generous given she's said Emperor's daughter. I do find the Emperor's family an interesting bunch in the original trilogy, they seem a pretty decent lot despite being the original major antagonists and getting a relatively raw deal under the Atreides, Leto II seems to have a liking for them. (Helps that Irulan iirc is his main mother figure given Chani dies in childbirth)

Finally got around to watch it, must say its a movie for people who have either read the book or at least seen the other movie, or know someone who has read the books. If you go into this blind, you have no idea what half of the stuff is supposed to mean. Also the sardaukar were completely pointless and my disappointment is immeasurable.

Yolomon Wayne posted:Finally got around to watch it, must say its a movie for people who have either read the book or at least seen the other movie, or know someone who has read the books. They have that scene on the stairs where the Harkonnen are getting owned by the Atreides, and then the Sardaukar all drop in and someone yells 'SARDAUKAR' and then the Atreides get owned. That's it. That's what you get. Incredibly efficient storytelling. (The Sardaukar attained their accolades as universes toughest fighters by discovering 'flanking'). I love the film a lot, but I do have to say, seeing it in IMAX the first time was DEFINITELY the best choice, it's much much much better in IMAX. I recently joined some Dune groups on facebook because why not, and it's hilarious how bad they are. Like, the worst community I've ever been a part of. Every comment devolves into racism and usually starts with some insanely bad take / idiocy like "Is Jessica attracted to Paul? Why was there a deaf Harkonnen?" Its loving great and I love it. Edit: Also, all my facebook ads have devolved into this: https://www.demobaza.com/collections/dune-x-demobaza-collection
