I really like Curtis Mayfield for that sound. He had a killer horn section on Curtis and the Superfly soundtrack is good as well.

If this doesn't check every soul groove funk adjacent box and make you feel something, you're cold and dead inside.

I was in the Atlanta airport a couple years back and there was this guy performing by himself on a stage near a food court, kind of like how you used to see at shopping malls. He was just playing a guitar and singing this song, and it wasn't even especially great, but I still had to stop and listen for a minute because the song is just so good on its own. K bye.

I've been trying to find music for a morning playlist to get me moving, and I've really found joy in 70s funk and soul. I was listening to a Spotify radio of 360 Degrees of Billy Paul, and "It's A Shame" by The Spinners came on, and that's exactly the vibe I'm interested in. Can people recommend any of their favorite songs or artists which are on the cusp of 70s Funk and R&B? I want something a little livelier than Bloodstone, but stuff more soulful than disco, if that makes sense. Sorry if that's a wishy-washy request, I'm pretty uneducated when it comes to talking about music.

Is there a band or compilation album that has the over the top club sound of This is Chai - CHAI? The rest of CHAI's stuff that I've listened to is much less "pushed to 11"

Knife Party has the same vibe but I'd prefer less of a dubstep sound.

it's been a long time since i've listened to much electronic music. i used to be really into psytrance, various trance genres, dnb like pendulum or whatever, daft punk of course, as well as justice and röyksopp, and loads of random poo poo. i feel like it's a type of music i've neglected to explore for a long time, and i want to start again, but i dont really know where to start.

so, recommend me your favorite electronic music albums/artists of the past decade or so? genre doesn't really matter

Pretty Lights

Those are all classified as “livetronica” or something similar. Goldfish is pretty housy. Pretty Lights did a great album called A Color Map of the Sun where he sourced a bunch of his samples specifically for the record rather than crate digging.

that question might be too broad for this thread, but it's not like it's too busy to spend some posts making lists of all the best electronic music of the last ten years, so what the hell. here's my personal list. it's far from your genres (noise/glitch/drone/psych) but that doesn't matter apparently :shobon:

oneohtrix point never - r plus seven
tim hecker - virgins
laurel halo - in situ
blanck mass - dumb flesh
iglooghost - neo wax bloom
black moth super rainbow - cobra juicy
baths - romaplasm
bibio - silver wilkinson
sweet trip - a tiny house, in secret speeches, polar equals
kero kero bonito - time 'n' place

Machinedrum - percussion-focused edm; early/mid/current
Chrome Sparks - soulful and sexy electronica early/mid/current
Photay - lush soundscapes
Oklou - flowy and groovy pop-electronica
James Blake - brooding and beautiful; early/mid/current
DJ Rashad - chicago juke aka ghetto house (an acquired taste)
Tipper - downtempo psybient
