I’ve already made this known but I consider Craig’s tenure to be a high point of the franchise and even his worst film is more watchable to me than a majority of the previous films. They all have their charm, but it was time for a new approach and that’s what these films delivered.

For me it’d go Casino, Skyfall, No Time, Quantum, and then Spectre. The entire group of them I’d take over all but a select handful of films from the franchise.

I dunno, Quantum is about as incoherent as Octopussy but I think I'd rather re-watch it because it's sillier. And I might not ever re-watch Spectre. That movie is a huge piece of poo poo.

I am also rapidly souring on No Time as I think about it more. Like, doesn't it really only have 3 good action scenes? (NTTD Spoiler) opening chase, the part of the cuba thing with the lady, late stairwell scene which kinda don't excuse the movie's endless runtime.

I'm still kinda mystified by how popular Skyfall is. It's so revered I have to ask myself the Skinner meme "Am I out of touch?"

Quantum of Solace is a total fuckin mess but I feel like it was more interesting than the shallow generic porridge that was Skyfall. (It had some good filmmaking, it wasn't unremarkable but story-wise? gently caress.)

The Pussy Galore rape scene in 1964, people can put down to the time period, but I'm still BAFFLED that more wasn't made of the completely insane act 2 rape scene in 2012.

The "story" is like the third most important thing when I watch a film. Skyfall is hands down the best shot Bond ever, and since film is a visual medium, that moves it way ahead of a lot of the other ones.

Skyfall is very well shot and paced, has a good villain, is fun, introduces Q and Moneypenny, has some notable plot developments, and Bond gets to play Home Alone.

Not sure why it’s a mystery that it’s considered good or that people like to hate on it now? I think it’s easily Craig’s best film after Casino.

Also the fact unlike previous Bonds they played a bigger role in helping Bond in investigating instead of being there to hand him the legal papers and gadgets.

Watched Tomorrow Never Dies for the first time in a while last night. I was struck by how ridiculous and over the top they played the villain in the movie, when you think about where we are in 2021 and how basically all of the goals that Carver Media Group has in the movie are totally realistic today and pretty much accepted. But they play it as if he's a Goldfinger-level mustache twirling villain and that his plans are outlandish. Price is cackling like a maniac as he says stuff like "The entire world will get their news from.....CARVER MEDIA GROUP!!!!" and I'm like ok yea that's how a media company works isn't it?

That's one of the most fun aspects of Bond films, they act as time capsules.

It's sad how normalized Elliot's plan has become in 2021, now that you mention it. I'm sure it seemed really high tech and scary in 1997.

In my recent Bond marathon Tomorrow Never Dies would definitely be ranked near the bottom. The antagonist might be relevant to modern corporate dystopia but he's about as intimidating as Steve Jobs (yes I realize he was based on him). Plus the henchmen is probably the all-time worst in a bond movie, just this totally bland Abercrombie model guy. Other then that it just feels pretty inspired overall. By the numbers.

Worst of all time has to go to Diamonds are Forever. I can't think of a singular redeeming aspect of that film. Connery at his most bloated and disinterested surrounded by all the gaudy tacky glamour of Vegas in the harsh revealing light of day. The casino scenes with Bond surrounded by retired pensioners is just totally depressing, how far they've fallen from Dr.No. Dropping the Blofeld and Tracy continuity for another rote Bond exercise complete with the most generic finale ever was a huge mistake.

Special shoutout goes to Never Say Never Again which I didn't finish due to a work call cutting it short, but left me thinking about the mysteriously corosive nature of James Bond's urine sample.

I still think Octopussy is super underrated and the Moore films are generally better then they're given credit for.

Speaking of

MOORE LIST:
1. Octopussy
2. The Spy Who Loved Me
3. For Your Eyes Only
4. Live and Let Die
5. Man with the Golden Gun (great first half, weak second)
6. Moonraker (opposite problem)
7. A View to a Kill

Star Trek: The Motion Picture is a boring movie
The Roger Moore movies are mostly a blur to me. I couldn't tell you the plot to most of them. I just know them as:

Octopussy: Bond goes underwater (I think?)
Live and Let Die: Bond goes voodoo
Moonraker: Bond goes into outer space
A View to A Kill: The one with Christopher Walkin and the bangin Duran Duran song.
Golden Gun: The one with Christopher Lee and the dude from Fantasy Island.

I can't tell you a drat thing about The Spy Who lives me or For Your Eyes Only.

Yeah there's no redeeming sheriff pepper. Who liked this idiotic racist slob enough to bring him back for Golden Gun?

I stand by what I said about DAF, but I will say that the car jump in Golden Gun featuring that slide whistle and a closeup of Peppers fat rear end flipping over before the jump shot is the single worst moment on the series.

PHUO: I think the clown suit bomb scene in Octopussy is actually well done. It builds up the tension and up until Bond is allowed to defuse the bomb, you’re not sure whether he’ll succeed.

There are far goofier scenes during Moore’s movies: the Tarzan yell in Octopussy, California Girls during the snowboarding in View To A Kill, JW Pepper...

FYEO is often called one of Moore's best because it was his only film to actually be a bit grounded and serious. The bit where he kicks the car off the cliff was taken straight out of one of Fleming's books (in that case, it was a trap door over a shark pool) and he hated it because he wanted Bond to remain a more lighthearted character who didn't do anything really brutal.

It also has a really nice car chase where they blow up Bond's Lotus so that he and the female lead can escape in a Citroen 2CV.

How much do I cum? The answer might surprise you!

I think its a scene in Tomorrow Never Dies where Bond is waiting for a a guy to return to his hotel room so he can extract information and then kill him and to pass the time he's drinks half a bottle of product placement correct Stolichnaya vodka. Could be confusing it for another one, but any ways that's a good scene.

I think you’re mixing that part where he’s waiting for Carver’s wife to show up with this scene

https://youtu.be/NH85zxU4tqU

which is also quite a good scene sandwiched in that movie. Tense, dark, with a little humor for good measure. I enjoy that we get one of Brosnan’s grittier moments when he turns the tables and the Hitman pleads that he’s just doing a job, and Bond replies “Me too” before shooting him.

Not a very memorable Bond film, but still has some good elements.

Wow what a piece of garbage this new Bond movie is. Not yet through watching it but it has been very bad since the very beginning. What were they thinking when doing this? Only money?! Solid 1 out of 5 and in addition this is overlong for no apparent reason. Well at least the length issue is not quite as bad as in Zack Snyder's Justice League...

So you think when that lady told her 6-year-old stories about the man named Bond, James Bond, she left in all the parts where he hosed, killed, drank, raped, and got his balls pulverized?

The next time I see Bond make a sarcastic quip before exploding a guy's head or punching him into an industrial shredder or whatever, should I figure that is part of the fairy tale?
