I played the first one a long, long, long time ago when I was still living in Japan, made it about 10 or 15 hours in and then moved so I never picked it back up. I had absolutely no memory of the lion man in the opening cutscene but I remember the rest of the cast

They're great ports. Square flips a coin to decide if a remaster is gonna be good or not and that one landed well. That aside, you might wonder why you can't skip cutscenes, in the event you suffer a game over. Unfortunately the original game's code is put together by gum and toothpicks so they were unable to implement shippable cutscenes. Also the voice acting is awkward at times, partly because the English voice actors needed to make each line last no more and no less than the Japanese voice tracks.

I made my peace with this a long time ago when I moved to the US and got to see the english versions of shows I watched 2 or 3 years earlier. Goku seemed like a totally different character to me even if I was watching the exact same episode I had before

There's basically nothing you can permanently miss but try your best to explore before moving to a new location.

Don't use the master grid unless you're following a guide or already know the game well. It's cool as gently caress but if you screw up too bad, you can make a lot of sections overly difficult.

Blitzball is very fun BUT is loving weird and doesn't make a ton of sense at first.

Khimari Ronso deserves better.

Edit: For X-2, play as you see fit. Experiment with all the dress spheres. There's a lot of potential team setups with some real wacky combos.

If you get to a point where you want to just blast through the game, look up a guide of how to become godlike with nearly zero effort using One Simple Trick (doctors hate her!!!)

The only thing I would suggest is do switch your fighters as much as you can per fight. Like if you can win a fight in one turn, do that obviously, but otherwise if you're against a tougher enemy/boss, just switch them so everyone gets AP. It can be a annoying to keep track of but not too bad.

I just left the Thunder Plains last weekend, I don't know if I'll have much time this one to get into it more, but it is good.

That's good because the game doesn't even really open up its main mechanics until like two chapters later so if the opening was sick then you are going to love the middle onward

Don't bother with X's post-game or the more ridiculous ultimate weapons. Don't try to 100% X-2 on one playthrough.

Do not min-max the lightning bolts. It means you won't 100%. That's fine 100%ing either game sucks rear end and isn't worth it.

Harrow

Yeah my biggest advice for Final Fantasy X is that a normal playthrough of the game and going for 100%/postgame stuff are playing two very, very different games. I love the former and will never even attempt the latter. Some people do and love it, and maybe you'll be one of them, but I recommend finishing the main story (there are some actually good bits of optional content like optional summons to get that are worth your time too) before you try to start min-maxing and stuff or you might burn out and never finish the main game.

I don't think any other game in the series has such a sharp divide in gameplay style between the main game and the postgame.

Also the power curve of FFX is whacked (in a good way), a consequence of which is that if you do all the optional post-game stuff you're tough enough to kill everything in the main game in a single hit. Absolutely do the end game before trying to take on the bonus stuff.

is persona 5 strikers on the switch worth playing or a terrible port?

Just to add what others said:

The Switch port is perfectly fine. The PS4 version will run at 60fps and has higher resolution and more graphical features, but if you go with Switch the difference's are not that stark. The video below is a good overview of the two versions.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoNRhm2XBZU

Also its not a JRPG its an action muso game with Persona trappings. So things like the social stuff or a open "mementos" world are missing. The plot and gameplay is much more compact and, if you skip the option side missions, you can beat the game in about 40 hours.

With that said, I loved it. The change from a JRPG combat system to musou combat took me some time to get used to (I never played a musou game before) but once I got the hang of it, the game became very easy for me. You can still acquire and fuse Personas, there are still showtimes, the characters and plot are all amazing, and the music is still some of the best in gaming.

One thing to note, if you never played Persona 5 you may be a little lost on why some of the characters are the way they are, and many of the in-game references. Strikers is a sequel to Persona 5 and the game acts like you know everything that happened in that game.

It's apparently one of the few big games that isn't backwards compatible on the new XBOXes. They really need to rerelease it, it's the best arcade racer ever, depending on how much I like Ridge Racer Type 4 that day.

Paradise is great and hugely influential on stuff like Forza Horizon, I just kind of miss actual tracks as opposed to point to point races on an open map.

NFS: Hot Pursuit was sort of a spiritual successor to Paradise and its also great on Switch if Paradise hooks you.

Also I really liked p5s but it isn't really a musou in the sense that Hyrule Warriors was. It's much more an ARPG, the maps feel more like dungeon exploration than anything resembling a musou.

TheMopeSquad

Persona Strikers was great as a JRPG and continuation of P5 and I really enjoyed that part but the combat system is completely disingenuous from what you think it will be.

It has all sorts of chains and combos and whatnot but they are actually worthless, they're weak, they are very slow to execute, and most importantly they leave you open to all attacks. The actual combat is spam casting spells vs weakness or physical skills to fish for crits until you run out of MP/HP then switching characters and doing it again and again, then using items to restore your HP/MP and doing it again. The only time you should be doing the combos is when you are completely out of resources and are forced to do the quick combo that casts a spell for free. I played on normal though so maybe if you play on the very easiest setting that will be different but for the bosses at least especially later in the game probably the same.

This is a little off prompt, but Jackbox could be a good fit if everyone is able to participate with their phones.

I think Mario Kart 8 can have up to 8 players locally. That tends to be a game that just about anyone can pick up and play around with.
