Lol literally one in every 381 people here have died from COVID, it's insane. Our governor Kristi Noem (who is def running for VP in 2024) has been all about "personal freedoms" and other bullshit. Which gave us the no-precautions Sturgis bike rally where half a million dipshits on Harley-Davidsons descend on a town of 7,000 for 10 days to party it up.

Not many people know that South Africa has some of the best virologists in the world and it's one of the few countries doing the kind of testing that would reveal new strains. So there is a good chance that the new strain originated somewhere else and then got detected in SA.

I like how half the countries in Europe are stopping flights from SA today when it's already in Belgium. That's going to help! Also, the Netherlands is doing a press conference announcing new covid restrictions tonight. They're going to force..... non-essential shops, restaurants, theaters and such to close from 5 PM to 5 AM. Yeah. Also also, most infections are coming from primary school aged children and their parents, but we're not going to do anything about that.
