Black Panther is a movie I want to like more than I do, but I have some issues with it, though very obviously not the same issues that that dumbass Freeper had. In its favor I think the villain is fantastic, probably the best one in all the Marvel movies. On the other hand there's two complaints, one kind of inexcusable and one that is predictable but still disappointing. The inexcusable one is that the CG for the climax of the movie is really bad, it makes it feel like it was given a lower priority than the other Marvel movies which is kind of hosed up when you think about what the movie meant for the superhero genre. Two, the predictable but disappointing one, is the whole "US government are the good guys and T'Challa decides to become best buds with them." Again, I know, Disney isn't going to make a movie where the US government as a whole is an oppressive racist force like in the real world, but it still feels bad.
So yeah, I like the movie okay, I wish I liked it more, but that Freeper is absolutely just saying the movie sucked because it was about black culture and they're a racist shithead that thinks Africans live in mud huts and never contributed anything to the world.

i love Black Panther, but i have seen valid complaints about it. a movie blog i read complained that T'Challa was more reactive where in the comics he's proactive, and also didn't like that his intelligence had been toned down from "actual super-genius", which was mostly shuffled over to Shuri, to just "really smart guy".
also: is there a term for the opposite of virtue signaling? cause no one was talking about Black Panther, and it's not intended to be a funny movie so it wouldn't normally come up in that discussion, and that guy brought it up just so he could brag about how much he hated it.

This case is about when your actions waive the privilege of self defense, when you lose what the law calls "innocence" as one of the elements that prove self-defense.
It is well within the scope of a jury to conclude that threatening to blow a guy's head off and then doing exactly that constitutes waiving the privilege.

I don’t see a not guilty verdict. They chased a Black guy down a street, true he had been trespassing, but he was not eligible for a citizen’s address and they had no right to stop him. They should have just stayed on the 911 call and followed him.

Like a lot of people here, I’m in favor of the principle that the jury can decide the law as well as the facts (as it applies to a particular case).
I said before that the best defense for these guys was the LAW which permits civilians to detain a suspect under certain circumstances. That was their best defense because the facts in the case were not as good for them as the law.
But I can see that they jury could reasonably conclude that the law was being parsed by the defense to avoid the facts, and could JUDGE the law, as is their right, to be invalid under these particular circumstances.
I support the right to keep AND TO BEAR arms, but in the course of bearing arms, someone winds up dead, you are going to face a judge and sometimes a jury, and it happens that they don’t see things your way.
This was a close call. If they chased Arbery after he was found over a dead body with a bloody knife in his hand, they would not have been found guilty. If they caught him with stolen goods, they might not have been found guilty. But trespassing? If he went away in handcuffs and they were charged with brandishing or assault, they might walk.
But blowing his head off after uttering a threat to do that over a trespassing charge (on someone else’s property)? Guilty 99 times out of 100.

From what I have seen (which is very little) this doesn’t look like a righteous shooting. It appears kid was having a look/see in the house under construction, and didn’t appear to be surveilling it for a future action.
They chose to vent their frustration from a previous burglary on this kid.
We’ll see how it plays out.

This is like a blurry photo of another planet ; there are deep complexities to this level of racism that we'd have to spend years studying this withered old whackadoo to even scratch the surface of. The defense's argument (which a couple of Freepers parroted in their posts) is that Arbery wasn't actually jogging, he was out casing houses to rob later, as well as the construction site. They were saying that no one who was actually jogging would be out with no socks and gross toenails, so this is proof he wasn't actually jogging and was only there for crimes. This is also why they had that lady on the stand who was going on about how the neighborhood was living in fear from someone stealing a few things, so obviously anybody they saw that they didn't know was a prime suspect and you can't blame people for wanting to stop all the horrible crimes going on.

So far on Monday I dealt with a company here in Arkansas and I received a estimate for $35,000, without a battery backup system. That would cost and extra $25,000. Well I can't make those numbers work even without the battery backup system.
The recommendation was for about a 9.62 KW system.
The plusses on any Solar System are a 26% Tax Credit on the cost of the system, plus my energy provider, Entergy, would buy my excess electricity and run that as a credit on my monthly Bill.
After talking to this first company I decided to see what Tesla had to offer just as a comparison. Their bid was about $21,000 including the Backup Battery System. Huge difference here and I can make those numbers work for me.
So now I have something to compare to and will look at other installers in my area to see what the average deals are. Not sure Tesla even has a company they affiliate with in my state. Will find out.
I sent the Tesla bid to the first company I talked to and told them if they could match this we might be able to do business. Of course I have yet to hear back and probably will not. quote:To: Captain Peter Blood

The best advice given here today!
I’m in Hawaii with some of the most expensive electricity in the world($0.38 per kWh). Even with subsidys, the payback period is 8-10 years for my 10.6 kWh system battery backed up system.
The real value is have to electricity, as much as you want when you want regardless of what the government or local utility says.
You aren’t going to save much money.
But I’m in very rural Hawaii and will, when the solar system is completed, be “off Grid”, by choice.
If you are a city guy your best bet is to get out of the city and become a little more independent.

The efficiency of converting from 12-16 volts DC to AC is less than 50% and it is square wave AC and is not synced to the phase of your electrical power.
Solar panels are great for remote locations with low power consumption. (radio sites, small cabins, and on other exotic places)

Most of these people have prepping fantasies about going off the grid when the RAHOWA kicks off. Shouldn't they have some appreciation for the ability to divest from the power grid that is provided by solar?
Being from the south, I've known a ton of folk who are hardcore outdoors people and it has nothing to do with politics or paranoia about societal collapse. But being Mr. Outdoors is supposed to be the pinnacle of the Freeper deified pop history image of Teddy Roosevelt masculinity. But I'd be willing to bet most of these people can't camp, hunt, shoot, run, or look at a computer monitor at their work for too long before they start loudly talking about their ADA Protected break time.

That's why "Let's Go Brandon" went as viral as it did, it finally gave them a way to say "gently caress Joe Biden" without having to actually say "gently caress."

I've noticed a lot of military vets end up marrying not-American Asian or Latina women. Not sure as to the why, but it's a thing. Good on someone getting a citizenship out of the deal.
