It gets better over time but doesn't have any strong deviations. Like you can just think of the later expansions as "like this, but better" as you play through.

The free trial is going to be turned off for a week or two in just a few days though, to make sure the servers aren't overloaded for paying players when the expansion drops on friday

The free version is the entire base game and first expansion, so yes in general though the former is somewhat rough since despite some recent improvements it still shows its origins as content they had to pump out fast since they were replacing a whole game and all. I had a good enough time with it even powering through, but being an MMO first-timer helped a lot with that since a lot of the gameplay got by on novelty for me.

the FF14 trial includes Heavensward, which is phenomenal and one of the best final fantasy stories, but you do have to play through A Realm Reborn to get there which is not great.

OK well I played for an hour, and yikes. Took way too long to actually get into combat. I skipped all the dialog and cutscenes and it took nearly an hour to get to killing squirrels.

I guess I'm not looking for a story heavy MMO, just for a more gameplay oriented one. I think I'm just gonna bite the bullet and play WoW again, since this was the best alternative from what everyone said.

Haha, oh man I remember playing that over 20 years ago. Was my first MMO and I was absolutely an 8 year old addict. The Dreamcast used to sit on my bed, and my mom woke me up early on 9/11 and told me to turn on my TV. Because I was so tired from playing the game late, the Dreamcast ended up sliding off the bed and breaking the disc in half, and I never played it again. The end of an era.

Yesterday I finished two games and started a new one, all in one stream!

Finished DMC5 (intrigued about the earlier games. Think I might give them a try in the future).

Then started and finished What Remains of Edith Finch - which was superb! Extremely affecting but a really interesting kind of game. My first 'Walking Simulator' kind of game.

Now, we are on Night in the Woods, which is another kind of awesome. LVG and I have been doing the voices again and we love how the characters are so rounded from their Dialogue. I totally get Mae and while I have no idea what the story is building up to, I have a few suspicions and I think it too will affect me.

Great gaming days!

Look at my avatar and I will say right now all of those games are good.
Some of them, quite a few in fact, surpass good and are actually Great.

Five of them are INCREDIBLE experiences that I am glad happened to me.

Nitw is so good and i�m a drop out failure like Mae so it hurt so good

Shame about the real life tragedy that surrounds it now and makes it basically impossible for their to ever be a sequel
