I vividly remember when T9 texting first became a thing and telling people “why the hell would you spend 5 minutes typing out a text when you could just call someone or page them”

As it turns out the answe is, I didn’t really want to talk to those people.

I spent 20 minutes typing out a T9 text explaining that I was going to be late because the bus was running late. I looked up and had missed my stop. I did not send a follow up text.

I love these so much. There's some really good ones of Sarah Sanders during her time as press handler for Trump.

A lot of girls I knew in high school got insanely good at t9 texting. They could do it without looking and almost as fast as most people can type on a keyboard.

There was something I read years after I left high school (consumer phones cheap enough that most middle class high school students had one came out in high school), but before the iPhone said something about high schoolers writing 30,000 words in text messages a month. I'm almost positive on the number, because I was thinking about trying NaNoWriMo and 30,000 words was the requirement.

Once you got used to it you could write without looking at the phone.

Exactly the same thing we do now. Just be really isolated and not really ever interact with what friends we do have.

I mean, that's universal, right?...

I hated touchscreens until swipe typing became a thing and I could somewhat reclaim typing without looking. I could never go back to touchscreen tap typing.

It's a good premise, but I feel like they could have gone farther with it, like a full thread of examples instead of a single tweet with a one-off joke.

No, we tied up the landline and the second phone line so we could play infantry online together and better coordinate. Or we just rode bikes around the suburban poo poo hole that we all lived in

There's a company out there making keyboard phones again, they're expensive but worth it if you're a stubborn nerd who refuses to adapt like me.
